As a dedicated Chicago Fire fan with years of investment in the lives of these fictional characters, I find myself caught between excitement and apprehension as Herrmann, portrayed by David Eigenberg, embarks on this new career journey. Having witnessed his growth from a senior firefighter to a Lieutenant, the thought of him climbing the ladder further is thrilling. Yet, the fear that he might be leaving Firehouse 51 lingers in the back of my mind.
Fans of Chicago Fire are speculating whether David Eigenberg’s character, Herrmann, could be departing the series. Initially appearing in Season 1, he was established as a senior firefighter at Engine 51 and later promoted to Lieutenant. Yet, recent storylines suggest that he may be moving up in his career, potentially indicating that he might be saying goodbye to Firehouse 51.
Here’s what happened to Herrmann in Season 13 Episode 8.
Is David Eigenberg’s Herrmann leaving Chicago Fire?
There are no confirmed reports that indicate Eisenberg’s Herrmann’s departure from Chicago Fire.
In the installment named “Quicksand,” Herrmann faces a crucial choice about his firefighter profession’s future, potentially altering his role within the series. Opting to join forces with his closest companion, Mouch, he embarks on their preparations for the chief exam.
Although viewers are delighted about his progression, they’re worried he could be entirely sidelined. This uncertainty leaves them questioning whether his character may already be set to leave the storyline. However, neither Eisenberg nor the producers have revealed any details about his exit yet.
During a chat with TVLine, Eisenberg pondered over the possibility of advancing to the role of Chief, which could mean letting go of his firefighting tasks, yet it also signifies a heavier burden of significant responsibilities for his character.
He expressed, “When you move up in rank as an officer, you distance yourself from the immediate danger of the fire, but you simultaneously assume the burden of protecting lives. This dual role can be challenging, as it involves caring for others while also leaving behind your previous life. I believe Hermann is prepared for this transition, and we’ll watch how things develop as he advances towards the position of chief.
There have been rumors before about Eisenberg potentially leaving the show during this particular season, but these speculations started when he missed Episodes 6 and 7. Initially, people thought he might be departing the series, but it turned out that he had injured his Achilles tendon, which caused him to be away (as reported by CinemaBlend).
