As a long-time fan who has followed Aubrey Plaza’s career since her days on Parks and Recreation, I must admit that the rumors about her character Rio Vidal being Lady Death in Agatha All Along have me both excited and skeptical. On one hand, it would be a brilliant twist if Plaza’s character turned out to be none other than the physical embodiment of Death herself. However, given Marvel Studios’ penchant for keeping secrets, I find myself questioning whether this is just another red herring to keep fans guessing.
The collectible FunkoPop figure for Agatha All Along has sparked speculation among fans that Aubrey Plaza’s character, Rio Vidal or Green Witch in the Disney Plus series, could actually be Lady Death. Although she is an adversary of Agatha Harkness and a member of her coven, it’s interesting to note that her character seems unrelated to comic book lore. Some fans are now questioning if FunkoPop might have inadvertently revealed Rio Vidal’s true identity within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Here are the facts you should know.
Is Aubrey Plaza’s Rio Vidal actually Lady Death in Agatha All Along?
Marvel Studios haven’t officially confirmed Aubrey Plaza’s Rio Vidal as Lady Death.
Funko recently unveiled charming FunkoPop figures of Agatha All Along’s characters, showcasing Agatha Harkness, Wiccan, and Death. Interestingly, the figure of Lady Death caught viewers’ attention as she hasn’t been introduced in the series yet. Her design shares a resemblance with Rio Vidal’s character, fueling discussions about the possibility of her being revealed as Lady Death in future episodes. However, it is important to note that this is speculation based on recent hints; Marvel Studios has not confirmed anything on the matter.
In a previous interview, WandaVision’s Teyonah Parris (Rio Vidal) expressed her appreciation for portraying an MCU character while hinting at an unexpected revelation that could excite fans. Marvel Studios has now released a teaser suggesting Death’s unveiling in future episodes. In the latest clip, the coven witches attempt to contact a spirit using a Ouija board. Agatha Harkness says, “There’s someone here with us,” before spelling out D-E-A-T-H. Given Parris’ hints and this new teaser, it seems likely that the upcoming episodes will provide insight into her character’s identity.
According to Marvel Comics lore, Lady Death represents the personification of Death. This character was brought to life by Mike Friedrich and Jim Starlin. She made her debut in Captain Marvel #26 issues. As a cosmic entity, she possesses absolute control over death, enabling her to either kill or resurrect individuals. Additionally, she has other abilities such as telekinesis, immortality, shape-shifting, healing, and teleportation, among others. Since Rio Vidal shares similarities with Lady Death, there is a potential for her to portray the role. However, it’s essential to wait for an official confirmation from Marvel regarding this matter.
