Why Do Some Consider Joe Biden’s Endorsement of Kamala Harris Controversial or Inappropriate?

As a long-time Democrat and avid gamer of political campaigns, I find Joe Biden’s endorsement of Kamala Harris for president in 2024 to be a bit concerning, given her lackluster performance during the 2020 election cycle.

Some people have expressed disagreement and even disapproval over Joe Biden’s endorsement of Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate for the 2024 election. A few have gone so far as to label it inappropriate. Though Biden’s backing may appear unremarkable since Harris previously served as vice president, there are valid reasons for unease given the unique circumstances of the upcoming election.

Why is Joe Biden’s endorsement of Kamala Harris for president controversial?

Democrats dear colleagues, I’ve made the choice not to accept the nomination and instead devote all my efforts to completing my presidential term. My initial action upon being nominated in 2020 was selecting Kamala Harris as my vice president, and it has proven to be the most effective decision.

After Joe Biden declared that he would not be running for president in 2024, he openly supported Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party’s nominee.

As a seasoned Democrat with a deep commitment to our party and the country, I have made the difficult decision not to seek re-nomination as our presidential candidate. Instead, I will devote all my energies to fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term. I take great pride in the choices I’ve made during my tenure, and one of the best decisions I’ve made was selecting Kamala Harris as my Vice President.

There are a few reasons why Biden’s endorsement of Harris is seen as controversial:

Harris performed terribly in the 2020 election

During the 2020 presidential election cycle, Kamala Harris attempted to secure the nomination but withdrew on December 3, 2019. Her poll numbers seldom surpassed the teeny-single digit mark, and despite amassing over $10 million in donations, her financial support dwindled significantly before the primaries even began.

As a passionate supporter, I’ve noticed some concerns being raised about a potential 2024 presidential bid by a prominent figure who faced challenges during her 2020 campaign. Some critics argue that if she decides to run again, it might be perceived as an unfair advantage due to the condensed timeline for fundraising and campaigning before the Democratic primaries. The fear is that any potential contender would be at a significant disadvantage, having little time to build momentum and gain public support. It’s an intriguing debate about fairness in the political process.

Some feel like Biden and Harris performed a switcheroo

A number of individuals who supported Biden’s campaign and contributed to his reelection fund express concern over his decision to step down and replace himself with Harris. While some view her as an acceptable vice president, many feel uneasy about her becoming the presidential nominee. The situation leaves delegates uncertain about their next steps. Should those who committed to Biden switch allegiances to Harris? Or are they permitted to vote for another candidate (if any emerge)?
