Why Did Zeus Leave T1? Explained

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent on League of Legends and following the esports scene closely, I must admit that Zeus‘ departure from T1 has left me both surprised and saddened. His contributions to the team are undeniable, and his decision to leave such a formidable organization is indeed intriguing.

It’s been reported that the standout top laner for the Korean League of Legends team, affectionately known as Zeus, has parted ways with Worlds 2024 champions, T1. Since his days as a greenhorn gamer, he’s been an essential player for T1, contributing to multiple titles. Now, his departure has left esports enthusiasts worldwide questioning his reasons for leaving the victorious team.

Here is everything fans need to know regarding Zeus’ departure.

Here’s why Zeus is leaving T1

It seems that the exact cause for Zeus’ departure from T1 isn’t entirely obvious. Yet, there are suspicions that his decision to part ways may have been due to a disagreement between him, his agency, and the upper management regarding the specifics of his contract.

According to an article by Dexerto, based on a report from Naver, T1 aimed to extend Zeus’ contract for four years. Yet, it seems that the gamer wasn’t content with this term length. In contrast, teammates Gumayusi, Keria, and Oner are said to have agreed to two-year extensions. The future of star player Faker is undecided as his contract expires in 2025. Furthermore, there appears to be disagreement regarding the re-signing amount between T1 and Zeus.

According to what I’ve gathered from the source, my agency communicated to T1 that we had set a deadline of 3 PM for their response on our offer. Remarkably, we didn’t hear back until 3:40 PM. While the monetary value was somewhat comparable, there was a significant disagreement regarding the length of the contract.

As a passionate fan, I can share that a representative from T1 communicated that our beloved LOL team was notified individually about the 3 PM deadline. In a rush, we traveled to Incheon for more talks and even requested additional phone negotiations, but unfortunately, these were turned down by the agent involved. Regarding Zeus, there have been no formal announcements yet. However, whispers abound that he might have joined forces with Hanwha Life Esports, also known as HLE.

Moreover, T1 posted a goodbye message on X (previously known as Twitter) for Zeus. In their own words, they expressed gratitude for what he achieved during his tenure at T1, and wished him nothing but success in the future.

As per a report from One ESports, it appears that T1 has secured the services of ex-HLE top laner Doran.
