As a long-time Linkin Park fan who has grown up listening to their music and experiencing the highs and lows they’ve gone through, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions about Rob Bourdon‘s departure from the band. On one hand, it’s heartening to see that Linkin Park is back with new members, ready to create more magic. But on the other, there’s always that lingering question: why did Rob Bourdon leave?
Legendary rock group Linkin Park made waves throughout the music scene with their announcement of a comeback, introducing new members to their storied lineup. Seven years since the untimely death of Chester Bennington, the band is ready to embark on a fresh chapter with Emily Armstrong stepping into the role of lead vocalist and Colin Brittain handling drums. Original members Mike Shinoda, Phoenix, Joe Hahn, and Brad Delson are also returning to their former positions. The news has sparked excitement and a touch of nostalgia among fans. Yet, questions about why Rob Bourdon left Linkin Park are now trending on social media.
Here’s the reason Mike Shinoda gave regarding Bourdon’s departure.
Here’s why Rob Bourdon left Linkin Park
Linkin Park recently sat down for an interview with Billboard, where they revealed details about their upcoming comeback album titled “From Zero.” This highly anticipated album will be released on November 15, 2024.
In the interview, they were questioned about why Bourdon left Linkin Park. Responding to this, Shinoda stated, “Rob had told us, I believe it was a couple of years back, that he wanted some space from the band. We comprehended that – it was already clear to us.”
Moreover, Shinoda highlighted that Rob Bourdon was gradually reducing his participation, even at fan meetings. He stated, “He began to appear less frequently, be less responsive, and I believe the fans picked up on it as well. During the re-release of Hybrid Theory and Papercuts, he didn’t make an appearance for any event.”
As tough as it was for me, I stood by my bandmates in supporting our drummer’s choices, as long as they brought joy to him. (First person perspective as a gamer)
Mike Shinoda shared his story about discovering Colin Brittain as a potential band member while filling in for Rob Bourdon. “I had collaborated with Colin,” he said, “We met around 2021 when I was invited to a songwriting session with several different artists, and Colin was one of the participants in the room. Right from the start, we hit it off.”
