As a gamer who grew up in the 90s and early 2000s, the news of Oasis reuniting after all these years feels like stumbling upon an elusive rare Pokémon in my Pokedex – pure nostalgia and excitement! The feud between Liam and Noel Gallagher was as notorious as their iconic music. I remember being heartbroken when they disbanded, especially after the masterpieces they delivered like “Wonderwall” and “Don’t Look Back in Anger.”
Back in 1991, the British rock group known as Oasis formed, comprised of Liam Gallagher, Paul Arthurs, Paul McGuigan, and Tony McCaroll at first. Not long afterward, Liam’s brother Noel Gallagher joined the quintet. Yet, approximately 18 years down the line, Oasis called it quits when Noel departed from the band. Now, shocking the rock world, they have announced their reunion with an upcoming tour. Let’s delve into the factors leading to the split of Oasis and the reasons for their comeback.
Why did Oasis break up?
The main cause of Oasis splitting up was the persistent dispute between brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher.
Originating as a five-piece band in 1991, Oasis produced several chart-topping songs such as “Wonderwall” and “Don’t Look Back in Anger.” Regrettably, the group disbanded on August 28, 2009, following an altercation backstage at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris. The siblings had harbored longstanding animosity towards each other before the split. Two years post-disbandment, Liam even took his brother to court over defamation, hoping to clarify the reasons behind Oasis’s demise for fans.
According to NPR, after their split, Noel expressed in a statement that he could no longer work with Liam for even one more day. Meanwhile, Liam carried on performing as part of the group, now known as Beady Eye, while Noel established his own band called High Flying Birds.
Why are Liam and Noel Gallagher reforming Oasis?
Despite their past disagreements, brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher plan to reunite Oasis for a long-anticipated comeback performance.
In 2025, after a 15-year break, the Gallagher brothers from Oasis are planning to reunite for a live performance. They’ve made the announcement via X (previously known as Twitter) that tickets for their tour will be available starting August 31, 2025, at 9 a.m. British time and 8 a.m. Irish Standard Time. The tour will feature 14 shows in total, scheduled for July and August 2025 across the U.K. and Ireland.
Furthermore, both the band’s and their siblings’ official Instagram accounts shared a caption saying, “The shooting has ceased. The constellations have lined up. The long-awaited moment has arrived. Come witness it. It won’t be broadcast.”
