As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for Apple products, I must say the prospect of a new Mac Mini is as thrilling as leveling up my favorite character in a game. It’s been 14 long years since we’ve seen a significant design change, and I can hardly contain my excitement!
Rumors suggest that Apple might soon unveil a new version of the Mac Mini, a device initially launched in January 2005. After undergoing a major redesign in 2010, its appearance has stayed consistent, although the integration of Apple Silicon has enhanced its capabilities. If these rumors hold true, this upcoming product would mark the first significant design change for the Mac Mini in fourteen years.
Is Apple releasing a new Mac Mini in 2024?
For several months now, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg has shared information about Apple’s intentions to launch a fresh edition of the Mac Mini. Just recently, he reinforced these assertions in a post on platform X (previously known as Twitter).
According to Gurman’s latest reports, it appears that Apple is about to unveil its new lineup of Mac computers in the near future. These will include opportunities for hands-on experiences outside of Cupertino, as well as online video demonstrations. Among the anticipated releases are a refreshed M4 iMac, an updated MacBook Pro, a revamped Mac mini, and USB-C accessories.
As per Gurman’s report, the upcoming Mac Mini, boasting an M4 processor, is set to break records as the tiniest computer ever made. It will sport a total of five USB-C ports, with two of these conveniently placed at the device’s front side.
Next week is shaping up to be a bustling one for Apple: On Monday, they’re expected to release new intel, followed by the unveiling of their M4 Mac products, and wrapping up with their earnings report on Thursday (possibly the last one featuring the current CFO). Have a spooktacular Halloween!
Prior to the launch of Mac Mini in 2005, Steve Jobs introduced it as “the most cost-effective and budget-friendly Mac ever.” Additionally, he encouraged users to connect their own monitors, keyboards, and mice with the phrase “BYODKM,” which stands for “bring your own display, keyboard, and mouse.” (via BBC)
In 2020, Apple started launching the Mac Mini equipped with Apple Silicon, marking a shift towards self-manufactured chips. Fast forward three years, and they’ve introduced more recent versions powered by M2 and M2 Pro processors.
As I write this, there is no verified announcement from Apple regarding the forthcoming unveilings and launches as per current reports.
