Spectators speculate that Carrie Bradshaw and Aidan Shaw’s relationship might have ended permanently in “And Just Like That“…
In Episode 9 of Season 3, viewers saw the once-tumultuous relationship between the couple reach its definitive end. What began as understated friction escalated into an emotional lunch and a heartfelt farewell, leading many to believe that Carrie and Aidan’s story has officially concluded. And the show’s creators confirm – this breakup was a long-awaited development.
Have Carrie and Aidan broken up for good in And Just Like That Season 3 Episode 9?
Aidan enters Carrie’s writing workshop accompanied by steaks and thoughts of dinner. However, Carrie declines his company as they have work to finish past regular hours. Dejected, Aidan makes his way upstairs. Upon her return, the atmosphere is already strained. Carrie climbs into bed next to him, but Aidan distances himself, requesting her to wash up because she’s carrying Duncan’s pipe scent. Compliant and sensitive to the situation, Carrie chooses to sleep in a different room.

In the early hours, a hush persists. Feeling aggravated, Carrie ventures out for a stroll and unexpectedly ends up in the shoe department of a store. However, before she could lose herself in high heels, Aidan invites her to have lunch. This leads to their ultimate separation.
Over lunch, Aidan confesses that he’s yet to fully trust her, a lingering issue stemming from her past relationship with Big years ago. Unphased, Carrie questions, “How is it conceivable that I haven’t managed to win your trust by this point?” she inquires. “I was completely invested,” she further states, and Aidan notices the shift to past tense. Carrie doesn’t dispute this. Both parties acknowledge they’ve reached their emotional breaking point.
Aidan expressed his deep disappointment, his voice trembling with emotion, saying ‘I truly believed we had a chance this time,'” as they hugged, seemingly for the final moment, while Taylor Swift’s “How Did We Get Here?” filled the air.
Executive producer Elisa Zuritsky shared with TVLine that the split between the characters was planned out “quite early” during script development. She elaborated that the show’s creators felt it was important for Carrie and Aidan to transition from their fairytale romance back into a more grounded reality, given their extensive personal history. Zuritsky added that asking these two characters, with their past baggage, to sustain such a relationship might have been too much of a stretch.
