The New Shepard is an innovative spacecraft engineered for quick space journeys. This reusable rocket propels a capsule beyond 62 miles above Earth, providing passengers with a thrilling taste of weightlessness. The entire journey, from lift-off to landing, spans approximately 11 minutes. Notably, these flights operate autonomously, meaning there are no human pilots on board, relying solely on the automated systems within the capsule.
On April 14, 2025, Blue Origin drew widespread interest as it prepared to launch an all-female crew into space from its Texas-based facility. The NS-31 mission will feature six women: Aisha Bowe, Kerianne Flynn, Gayle King, Amanda Nguyen, Katy Perry, and Lauren Sánchez.
Since the year 2021, Blue Origin has been taking passengers on board its spacecraft. On their inaugural flight were Jeff Bezos, his brother Mark, Oliver Daemen, and Mary Wallace Funk, along with other distinguished individuals such as William Shatner and Michael Strahan. However, in September 2022, flights of the New Shepard were momentarily halted following an uncrewed mishap. Subsequently, the Federal Aviation Administration mandated 21 necessary adjustments to be made. Once these improvements had been implemented, Blue Origin recommenced its flights in May 2024.
