As an ardent fan of the Malayalam film industry, I must say that Unni Mukundan has truly carved a niche for himself with his impressive acting skills and versatile roles. Born and raised in Kerala but schooled in Gujarat, this chameleon-like actor has seamlessly blended into various roles, be it in Tamil, Telugu, or Malayalam cinema.
Ever since Marco, starring the incredible Unni Mukundan, hit the big screens on December 20th, I’ve been absolutely hooked! The action-packed thriller has been a smash in theaters, and it’s all thanks to Unni’s magnetic screen presence that it’s generated such massive hype. Before we dive into the movie itself, let me share some insight on who this captivating actor is.
Who is Unni Mukundan?
Born in Thrissur, Kerala, Unni Mukundan is a renowned actor who, unlike many of his peers, spent most of his formative years in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. His educational journey unfolded within the walls of Pragati Higher Secondary School in Ahmedabad. In time, he developed an interest in English Literature and Journalism, which led him to pursue higher education in these fields.
Prior to venturing into the world of entertainment, it’s said that Unni Mukundan was employed by a firm known as Motif.
Starting his acting journey in 2011, he made his debut in Tamil cinema with the movie Seedan, a remake of the Malayalam film Nandanam. His first role in the Malayalam film industry was in Bombay March 12, where he worked alongside Mammootty under the direction of Babu Janardhanan.
1) His outstanding performance led to multiple awards, and his career really took flight with the release of Mallu Singh in 2012, which was an incredible box office success. Notable milestones in Unni’s career include his role as the antagonist in Janatha Garage (2016), a highly praised and financially successful Telugu film that garnered critical acclaim.
2017 saw him stepping onto the scene as a lyricist and singer with Achayans, gaining acclaim for his portrayal of Edmund Thomas Clint’s father in Clint. He is also recognized for his roles in Bhaagamathie and Chanakyathanthram, which garnered favorable criticism.
2022 saw him earning acclaim for his role in “Meppadiyan.” Remarkably, this film was also awarded the National Prize for being the most outstanding debut directorial work.
Unni Mukundan’s upcoming movies
I had the privilege of starring in the pulse-pounding Malayalam action thriller “Marco,” directed by Haneef Adeni. In this film, I stepped into the shoes of Marco Peter, a captivating role indeed. Siddique brought George Peter to life, while Jagadish breathed essence into Tony Isaac. Abhimanyu Shammi Thilakan took on Russell Isaac, Tony’s son, and Kabir Duhan Singh graced our screens as Cyrus Isaac, Tony’s adopted son. Anson Paul played the character Devaraj, and Yukti Thareja captivated us all as Maria in this exciting production.
As a connoisseur of all things cinematic, let me share some insights with you. For those who may be unfamiliar, the film “Marco” is a captivating spin-off from the 2019 Malayalam blockbuster, “Mikhael.” In this intriguing narrative, the talented Nivin Pauly takes center stage, and the visionary Haneef Adeni skillfully guides the production.
