As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for true crime narratives, I’ve followed the Menendez brothers’ case with bated breath since its inception. Having spent countless hours delving into the intricacies of their story, I can confidently say that the confusion surrounding their supposed sister is a fascinating twist in this tangled web.
Some people are curious to know if the Menendez brothers have a sister or any other siblings, given that several relatives of Erik and Lyle Menendez have spoken out in favor of their resentencing, many of whom are women around the same age as the brothers. The confusion arises due to mentions about the Menendez sisters. Here’s the answer to whether the Menendez brothers have a sister or another sibling within their family.
Do the Menendez brothers have a sister or other sibling?
No, the Menendez brothers do not have a sister or other sibling.
In this scenario, when “sister” is mentioned, it primarily refers to Joan Andersen VanderMolen, the sibling of Kitty Menendez. Surprisingly, she stands by her brothers even after they were given life sentences for murdering their mother Kitty and father Jose. On October 16, as reported by FOX LA, this 93-year-old woman traveled to California to join a press conference. She expressed that while the actions were indeed heartbreaking, they were also a “desperate attempt by two boys struggling to endure the unbearable cruelty of their father.
She expressed her lack of knowledge about the severity of the mistreatment they experienced, and during their trial in the 1990s, she mentioned that society as a whole wasn’t prepared to acknowledge that boys could be victims of sexual assault. Nowadays, though, we are more informed about such matters.
As a gamer putting myself in Karen VanderMolen’s shoes, I can’t help but ponder what might have been if the truth about the case had been revealed earlier, or if the Menendez brothers had been the Menendez sisters. The world would certainly look different today.
In the sentencing memorandum for the Menendez brothers (which can be found in its entirety on NBC Los Angeles), submitted last Friday, October 25th by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, it was proposed that Erik and Lyle Menendez be resentenced. The memo states that approximately 30 extended family members have voiced their support for this action, and collectively affirm that both brothers were sexually abused by their father, Jose Menendez, during their childhood.
Should the judge overseeing the resentencing hearing concur with the District Attorney’s proposal, it would open up an opportunity for my beloved brothers to potentially regain their freedom through parole.
