Who is the dragon in the Vale in House of the Dragon?

As a long-time fan of George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series, I’ve grown accustomed to the complexities and surprises that come with the world of Westeros. And with HBO’s new show “House of the Dragon,” I’m excited to delve deeper into this intricate universe.

Jeyne Arryn expressed her requirement for a dragon’s protection in “House of the Dragon.” However, Rhaena wonders why she would need one since the Vale already has a dragon. The explanation is that this particular dragon cannot be tamed.

I was walking with my brothers when we stumbled upon a charred area. The damage was unmistakably the work of a dragon, yet this contradicted what Jeyne had always told us. Her denial of the existence of dragons meant that she had deceived Rhaenyra and me.

Who is the dragon in House of the Dragon?

Jeyne didn’t exactly tell the truth. Although there is a dragon residing in the Vale, it doesn’t serve as protection for the people there. Quite the opposite, actually. This dragon poses a risk to some of the villagers by stealing their livestock, particularly sheep.

This dragon goes by the name Sheepstealer due to his preferred activity – pilfering sheep. The evidence of his deed is the charred brand left behind. He claimed the lives of some sheep and made off with their provisions, flying away with his ill-gotten gains.

In Westeros, there are two more untamed dragons with possible names being Grey Ghost and Cannibal. Yet, Sheepstealer stands out as the sole dragon that has been tamed.

Will Rhaena get a dragon of her own in House of the Dragon?

Rhaena consistently lacks a dragon of her own. The egg found in her crib failed to hatch, preventing her from having one personally. Despite her efforts to mount dragons, including attempting to ride Vhagar, she has been unsuccessful. Both Corlys and Rhaenyra express concern over Rhaena’s persistent attempts, with the latter making it clear that such endeavors are not welcome.

Rhaena might not conform to the desires of her stepmother and grandfather. There’s a possibility that she could find a method to tame Sheepstealer, the dragon, using an unconventional approach – possibly sheep. Based on hints about Rhaena’s character development, it appears she may use this unusual tactic.

In “Fire & Blood,” this particular storyline is not originally mine; it belongs to Nettles. I’ve discussed why such a shift might not be beneficial. Nevertheless, it’s essential to note that this alteration isn’t set in stone – it could simply be the current trend.

The dragon residing in the Vale will probably have a greater impact on “House of the Dragon” in Seasons 2 and 3.
