Born on the 22nd of July, 1995, right here in good ol’ St. Louis, Missouri, USA, I was raised and schooled in this great state. After wrapping up my high school years at Christian Brothers College, I moved on to Missouri Western from 2013 till 2017.
During high school, Owens studied at Christian Brothers College High School (CBC). Here, he played football under coach Scott Pingel. Prior to that, he had spent his middle school years at Loyola Academy in St. Louis. While at CBC, Owens proved himself as an exceptional linebacker and was even bestowed the honor of being named CBC’s Linebacker of the Year.
Jonathan Owens’ Career
Following the 2018 NFL draft, Jonathan Owens signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted rookie. But during the last week of preseason workouts before the season started, he was let go due to an injury and spent the entire year on injured reserve. On August 31, 2019, the Cardinals chose to release Owens.
In September 2019, Owens began practicing with the Houston Texans’ reserve team. He was promoted to their active roster on November 21, 2019, but was released after just two days and went back to the practice squad. On January 13, 2020, he signed a contract for future reserve duties with the Texans.
Following his release by the Texans on September 5, 2020, Jonathan Owens found himself on their practice squad the very next day. He was then moved up to the active roster twice, first for the games against the Jacksonville Jaguars (week 5) and Tennessee Titans (week 6), which were held on October 10 and 17 respectively. After each game, he returned to the practice squad. By December 12, 2020, his tenure on the practice squad had ended, as he was now a permanent member of the active roster.
On August 31, 2021, the Texans released Jonathan Owens, but later reinstated him to their practice squad. His stay on the practice squad didn’t last long as he was promoted to the active roster on December 4. The team signed Owens for a contract worth $1.175 million, keeping him with them until the end of the 2022 season, effective December 9.
On December 26, 2021, Owens achieved his first career interception and regained his initial fumble, contributing significantly to the Texans’ surprising win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Unfortunately, he was placed on injured reserve on January 3, 2022, after suffering a wrist dislocation during the team’s loss against the San Francisco 49ers in week 16.
As a lifelong football fan and someone who has followed the Green Bay Packers closely for many years, I was thrilled when Jonathan Owens joined the team back in May of 2023. His first career touchdown on Thanksgiving Day against the Detroit Lions was nothing short of electrifying, particularly since it came in the form of a game-changing fumble recovery that sealed a hard-fought victory for my beloved Packers.
Personal Life
On February 15th, 2022, Jonathan Owens and Simone Biles made their engagement public. After their wedding on April 22nd, 2023, Jonathan was granted some time off from his duties with the Chicago Bears to accompany Simone during her competitions at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
