Who is G Venugopal? Meet veteran playback singer who recently went viral due to his false death rumors

Known as G Venugopal, Gopinathan Nair Venugopal is widely recognized as a well-known playback singer primarily connected with the South Indian film industry. Lately, he found himself in the news following an incident of a celebrity death hoax. Indeed, this isn’t the first time such rumors have circulated about him online. However, what’s interesting is how he responded to these situations. Now, let’s delve into his unique way of handling false reports about his passing. Before we do that, though, it would be beneficial to understand who G Venugopal is.

Who is G Venugopal?

G Venugopal kick-started his singing journey through the 1984 movie “Odaruthammava Aalariyam”. Since then, spanning across many years, he’s lent his voice to over 400 films and has produced over 500 personal albums.

Venugopal was born into a family that values music deeply. His aunts, K. Sharadamani and K. Radhamani, often called the Parur sisters, were highly esteemed musicians. Moreover, his cousins, Sujatha Mohan and Radhika Thilak, are also well-known singers. Notably, his niece, Shweta Mohan, is a respected playback singer too.

Among his well-known tunes are “Poomaname” from Nirakkoottu (1985) and “Unarumee gaanam” from Moonam Pakkam (1988). Venugopal has garnered numerous esteemed accolades, including the Kerala State Film Award for Outstanding Male Playback Singer.

G Venugopal shuts down his death rumors

Once more, I found myself at the heart of a rumor that I had passed away. A misleading message circulated widely, causing quite a stir. Yet, the artist in me chose to address this playfully and posted a screenshot of the fabricated news on my social media platforms.

In a calm manner, Venugopal chose to make light of the situation by cracking a joke and inquired from his followers if they had any suggestions for handling unusual circumstances like this one.

In essence, I find myself once more contemplating death, having traversed treacherous terrains and scaled snowy peaks in Sonmarg, Gulmarg, and Pahalgam within Kashmir. Upon my return to Srinagar with my wife, a title from my schoolmates’ message read, “What do we do if you keep dying sporadically…”. I am now pondering whether it would be wise to call a press conference to assert that I have no immediate plans of departing this life.
