Who is Debraca Denise? All About Redd Foxx’s Daughter

Debraca Denise Foxx is famously recognized as the sole offspring of the highly acclaimed stand-up comedian Redd Foxx, despite them not being biologically related.

Following Redd’s passing in 1991, she was named the administrator of his estate. However, disputes with his fourth spouse, Ka Ho Cho, necessitated the intervention of a public official to manage the estate.

Debraca Denise’s Childhood

Debraca Denise was born in the year 1947 to Betty Jean Harris, a renowned American dancer and entertainer. A few years afterward, Betty crossed paths with Redd Foxx at a nightspot where they were both scheduled to put on shows.

In July of 1956, they tied the knot, and the entertainer later took on the role of mother for Debraca, nurturing her as though she was his own offspring. Instead, Betty opted to devote herself entirely to domestic life, leaving behind her career in the entertainment industry.

Later on, she managed Redd’s business transactions and arranged his schedule at the height of his professional success.

In May 1974, following 18 years of wedlock, Redd decided to legally separate from Betty due to persistent disagreements. This tumultuous period in his life led him to seek a protective order against her.

Career

For a short period, Debraca Denise collaborated with her dad. In a 1977 episode of the television series Sanford and Son (aired from 1972 to 1978), she portrayed the character Doris Martin.

Redd Foxx played the lead role of Fred G. Sanford in the show. He also made a smaller appearance in the spin-off, Sanford, which premiered in 1980.

Denise hasn’t taken part in any other acting ventures. Back in 2015, she graced the screen on Unsung Hollywood (aired between 2014-2018), a documentary series showcasing notable and impactful Black stars from cinema, television, comedy, and sports industries.

Personal Life

In June of 1975, Debraca Denise Foxx got married to Ralph Russell, a successful entrepreneur from Los Angeles. Their grand wedding, valued at around $40,000, took place at the prestigious Beverly Wilshire Hotel.

After the stormy divorce between him and Betty Harris, her adoptive father became conspicuously absent. However, their relationship as father and daughter eventually healed. Debraca and Ralph Russell went on to have a child, who they named Paul Hiles.
