As a dedicated fan of “House of the Dragon,” I’ve been eagerly following every development in this captivating series. The recent encounter between Alicent and Gwayne Hightower in Season 2, Episode 6 was a breath of fresh air for me, bringing to light a character that has, until now, remained largely in the background – Daeron Targaryen.
In “House of the Dragon” Season 2, Episode 6, Alicent and Gwayne Hightower shared a significant moment where we delved into their past and its impact on their present. For me as a gamer, it was like hitting pause on the game to gain insights into these characters’ backstories. During this heartfelt exchange, Alicent not only had an opportunity to reconcile with Gwayne but also deepened her understanding of her third son, Daeron.
As a dedicated viewer of “House of the Dragon,” I can’t help but feel a pang of familiarity when a character like Daeron is mentioned only to vanish from the screen for an extended period. Having watched my fair share of TV shows, I’ve come to expect this ebb and flow of character appearances. It’s not uncommon for certain characters to take a backseat while others take center stage.
Indeed, he makes an appearance in the preview for the upcoming episode. He’s set to join the Greens’ cause, so it would be beneficial to learn about him and his role.
Daeron Targaryen is Viserys and Alicent’s third son in House of the Dragon
Daeron is the youngest sibling of Aegon, Helaena, and Aemond Targaryen. In place of residing in King’s Landing, he was assigned to serve as a cupbearer for Alicent’s relative, Lord Ormond Hightower, in Oldtown. He is portrayed as the beloved one among the three brothers within the narrative, and it appears that his absence from King’s Landing benefits him. Daeron possesses a compassionate nature, which cannot be attributed to Aegon or Aemond by Alicent.
During the Dance of the Dragons, Daeron mounts Tessarion for rides and participates in certain battles. In episode 7, his involvement is confirmed, while it’s anticipated that he’ll play a role in the final installment as well.
In the course of events portrayed in “House of the Dragon,” it’s not unanticipated that he eventually passes away. Given that Aegon, Rhaenyra’s son, ascends to the Iron Throne and puts an end to the Dance of the Dragons, his demise shouldn’t occur during Season 2.
Daeron’s demise follows that of Aemond. However, the circumstances surrounding his death remain uncertain in the text. No definitive evidence of his body being found exists, leading to several claimants vying for the throne.
