2021 saw Gamberzky petition for a religious exception to the COVID-19 vaccine mandate, basing his request on his Christian beliefs and apprehensions about research involving fetal tissue in vaccines. Afterward, he chose to leave the military and has since filed a lawsuit against the Department of Defense, Air Force, National Guard, and Oregon Military Department, claiming compensation for lost income, benefits, and medical expenses.
