Who is Abishan Jeevinth? Meet Tourist Family director as his film crosses Rs 56 crore at Tamil Nadu box office

Despite competing with movies like Retro and HIT 3, Tourist Family has proven to be a box office hit, running for 25 days in cinemas with continued success. Today, we’re focusing on the director behind this film who skillfully brought the Tourist Family story to life.

Who is Abishan Jeevinth?

Originating from Tiruchirappalli, located in the state of Tamil Nadu, Abishan Jeevinth completed his primary education at a nearby school before relocating to Chennai for higher education. As per Filmibeat’s report, he earned a B.Sc. degree in Visual Communication from Loyola College. Unlike many others in the film industry, Abishan doesn’t have a background in films, and there isn’t much publicly available information about his family or close circle of friends.

Originally, this young artist is said to have embarked on his artistic path as a YouTuber, specifically under the channel Thug Lightu. Here, he shared videos on themes like friendship, tests, and romance. His love for narrative expression eventually translated into short films. In 2019, he helmed his first short film titled DOPE. A year after that, Nodigal Pirakatha was put out, which garnered massive attention with more than 2 million views on YouTube.

Abishan Jeevinth’s big break

Before reaching the limelight of mainstream films, Abishan encountered numerous obstacles. During his last year at college, a movie project he had planned got scrapped because of the COVID-19 pandemic. But it was the film “Tourist Family” that eventually opened the door for him.

As a die-hard admirer, I can confidently say that the movie was a captivating reimagination of Kamal Haasan’s timeless masterpiece, Thenali. This cinematic journey delved deep into the heartrending tale of a Tamil family, bravely navigating through turbulent times in Sri Lanka during an economic downturn and seeking refuge. Stepping boldly from the realm of short films, Abishan showcased his remarkable talent on the silver screen with this gripping production.

Abishan’s personal life

At the Tourist Family promotional event, director Abishan Jeevinth stunned everyone by proposing to his long-term friend Akhila Ilangovan. He emotionally thanked Akhila for her unwavering support throughout his career. Additionally, he commended his mother as a powerful inspiration. The proposal was made in front of a live audience and swiftly became popular on social media platforms.

Tourist Family box office day 25

On the 25th day, the film starring Sasikumar and Simran is said to have earned approximately Rs 1.20 crore, raising its total at the Kollywood box office to a noteworthy Rs 56.50 crore.
