In HBO’s “The Last of Us Season 2,” the tension rises with the debut of the Seraphites, a significant religious group tied to the storyline of Part II from the original game. This latest episode reveals this sect, also called the Scars, who become the main adversaries to the Washington Liberation Front (WLF) in the Seattle confrontation depicted in the game.
In the storyline of the game, two factions are engaged in a battle for control of the city, creating a significant power struggle that ultimately determines the shape of the post-apocalyptic world depicted in The Last of Us.
The Last of Us Season 2’s Seraphites cult explained
In the game The Last of Us, a group called the Seraphites was established under the leadership of a woman who was commonly called the Prophetess.
In simpler terms, she thought excessive use of technology led to the end of the world as we know it. To find salvation, she advocates a shift towards more traditional ways of life for humankind.
The Seraphites came to be known as “The Scarred Ones” due to each individual possessing a unique scar etched onto their visage, reminiscent of a Glasgow smile. They often denounced modern technology, viewing it as belonging to the past. As per the Prophet’s instructions, they were allowed to employ only antiquated tools from the old world during conflicts with the WLF.
Are the Seraphites part of The Last of Us 2 game?
In “The Last of Us Part II”, the Seraphites significantly contribute to the narrative by engaging in intense conflicts with the WLF over their shared goal of dominating Seattle.
Originally dwelling on the south side of an island overlooking the Seattle marina, the Seraphites were rooted in ancient teachings. However, these traditionalists unexpectedly amassed an army consisting of roughly 500 soldiers and entered into a drawn-out battle with the WLF, as their territory was encroached upon.
How do the Seraphites die in The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 3?
In the third episode of The Last of Us Season 2, Ellie and Dina stumble upon a number of Seraphite corpses in a wooded area. For the initial time, the audience gets a glimpse of this group as they make a desperate bid to leave the city amidst the ongoing conflict.
Despite being unknown assailants, they relentlessly chase and eventually take the lives of Ellie and Dina. Suspicion falling on Abby’s group, the WLF, Ellie and Dina believe that it was this team who orchestrated the attack. In an effort to prevent their destructive actions from escalating any further, they decide to confront them.
