In the game Where Winds Meet, sects are like guilds, but joining one significantly changes your gameplay experience. They focus heavily on roleplaying, and offer great rewards to players who climb the ranks. This guide explains how to join a sect in Where Winds Meet and gives you a quick look at what each one offers.
How to Join Sects in Where Winds Meet

First, navigate to the Sects menu from the main menu. You’ll find the button in the bottom-right corner of the screen. This menu provides all the key information about each of the different organizations in the game.
If you don’t see the Sects button right away, just keep playing and gaining experience. It will appear soon after you start the game.

First, navigate to the ‘Join Sect’ screen and choose a sect you like. Look for the ‘Entry Clue’ button in the bottom-right corner and click it – this will give you a hint about where to find your first clue. After locating the clue, you’ll need to complete a quest to officially join the sect.
Where Winds Meet: All Sects & Rules

This part of the guide is still under development because not all playable sects are currently in the game. We also don’t have complete information on every sect yet, but we anticipate more details will be released in future game updates.
In WWM, each Sect has its own distinct style and a strict code of conduct that members must adhere to. Breaking these rules can lead to expulsion. However, remaining loyal to a Sect and improving your standing unlocks access to its exclusive shop, with higher ranks offering unique cosmetic items themed around the Sect.
| All Sects in Where Winds Meet | |
|---|---|
| Sect | Description & Rules |
| Well of Heaven | Believers of true justice who are unbound by laws and morals. They value righteousness and brotherhood above all else, and they specialize in the Thundercry Blade Martial Arts. San Qian’er in Qinghe’s Harvestfall Village will lead you to the Well of Heave…or will he? |
| |
| Silver Needle | A sect of healers and well-doers. Members of the Silver Needle are dedicated to providing healing and assistance to those who need it, making it the perfect sect for support-minded players. Silver Needle favors the Inkwell and Panacea Fans. Aspiring Silver Needle members should look for Doctor Yuan in Sage’s Knoll. |
| |
| Midnight Blades | Members of the Midnight Blades sect are killers who tread along the Asura Path. Violence is in their blood, and they are rewarded for killing other players. The Infernal Twinblades are the Midnight Blades’ martial art of choice. Visit Halo Peak on Sundara Land to get in contact with the Midnight Blades. |
| |
| Nine Mortal Ways | A sect of tricksters and pranksters. Nine Mortal Ways thrives in mischief, and it treads the fine line between the mortal world and the realm of ghosts. Its members favor the Mortal Rope Dart. Perhaps San Qian’er in Harvestfall Village knows how to contact the Nine Mortal Ways sect. |
| |
| Velvet Shade | A passionate sect founded and led by women. Its members operate as spies, and they favor the use of the Vernal/Ninefold Umbrella. |
| |
| Raging Tides | Raging Tides is a military sect that proudly defends the land. Its members are pure-hearted warriors who are constantly in pursuit of martial mastery. Raging Tides favors the Heavenquaker and Stormbreaker Spear styles. |
| |
| The Masked Troupe | A mysterious sect that favors song and dance over martial arts, though this doesn’t mean its members are incompetent fighters. |
| |
| Lone Cloud | Lone Cloud is a sect of mathematicians and swordmasters who value finesse over brute force. They value the art of the Strategic Sword. |
| |
| Hollow Vale | Hollow Vale acknowledges the careful balance between life and death, instilling the values of both within its disciples. The sect’s members are capable of both healing and poisoning, and they believe one must always follow the other. |
| |
| Inkbound Order | Scribes, scholars, and swordmasters. These are the usual descriptors for members of the Inkbound Order. They value literature as much as martial arts, and the sect has close ties to the imperial court. |
| |
| Mohist Hill | Mohist Hill is for seekers of truth and believers of the greater good. They aid all they can without compromise. |

Sectless

If you don’t feel drawn to any of the sects, you can choose to remain independent, known as ‘Sectless’. This gives you complete freedom without any restrictions or downsides. While you’ll miss out on unique items and roleplaying opportunities offered by the sects, you can still purchase a special Sectless outfit using Reputation points at the Sect Shop.
As a player, I’ve learned that you get reputation points by finishing those Sect Commands – you can find them under the ‘Jianghu Errand’ section in the Sects menu. It’s how you build up your standing with each sect!
