However, to access these secret vaults, you’ll first need to search for Vault Key Fragments hidden throughout the game’s various regions. Accumulating these fragments is crucial if your goal is to open the vaults, conquer the challenges they present, and ultimately claim your well-deserved rewards.

Where to find Vault Key Fragments

In each region, you’ll come across several pieces of the Vault Key. These fragments are concealed throughout the world, but your map will highlight their general location as you approach. Therefore, it’s advisable to thoroughly explore each region and follow every clue indicated by the question marks on your map.

When you approach a Vault Key Fragment, a marker will appear on your map indicating its location. As you enter the area, a locator will display on your screen. The bar gradually fills as you move closer to the fragment, and once all four sections of the bar are visible, you’re very close!

The Vault Key Piece appears as a sizable, almost pitch-black stone fragment flecked with brown, and it seems to have bright, golden bolts of electricity dancing across it. Collect each one from the same area to open the Vault and reap its treasures.

How to use Vault Key Fragments

To turn a region into a vault key, collect all the Key Fragment pieces scattered around. However, remember not to combine more than one fragment from Fadefields with another from Terminus Ridge. Once you gather all fragments in an area, a mark will appear on your map indicating the location of the Vault. Similar to finding the fragments, a tracker on your screen will help you locate the Vault and show your proximity to it.

The Vault seems like a pile of debris protruding from the ground. Upon approaching, a lock emerges that requires the Vault Key Fragments for activation. By inserting the key fragments, you can unlock the Vault.

Each Vault varies, yet they all include a type of hurdle and a formidable boss battle. It’s advisable to go in well-prepared, particularly if you’re playing on Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode or using Moxxi’s Big Encore. The struggle is always rewarding, as the Vaults offer an abundance of loot.

Obtaining Vault Key Pieces and their corresponding Vaults is an effective method to gather numerous potent equipment pieces, such as Legendary firearms.
