Where to find the Ornate Lockbox – Remnant 2

Where to find the Ornate Lockbox - Remnant 2

As a seasoned gamer who’s seen his fair share of virtual treasure chests, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation when I come across the Ornate Lockbox in Remnant 2. But, much like that one time I found a shiny object in Skyrim that turned out to be a bear trap, I’m cautiously optimistic about this one.

In Remnant 2, the Fancy Chest could be intriguing to unlock, but doing so may deny you future prizes. This hidden treasure in the game, known as the Yaesha lockbox, presents you with two possibilities: open it or keep it sealed. Before returning it to the Eternal Empress, a choice must be made. Here’s where to locate the Fancy Chest and what benefits you’ll reap from either option.

Ornate Lockbox location

The Ornate Lockbox is in Yaesha in the Widow’s Court area. It is found by dropping down a hole in the ground near the exit of the level (which might be The Great Bole depending on your world roll) and then passing through an illusionary wall.

To get to this location, make your way towards the heart of the space, specifically where you’ll find the water fountain. After passing the fountain (heading towards the exit), you’ll encounter a depression in the ground with water cascading downwards into a lower level. Descend into the hole and proceed towards the exit to stumble upon a room featuring a chest, an appealing bench, and a torch fixed on the wall.

Behind the lit torch, there’s an optical illusion that you can stroll through. Ascend in the elevator to discover a concealed room where you’ll find an intricately decorated lockbox sitting on a bench.

What to do with the Ornate Lockbox & rewards

Deliver the Intricately Designed Chest to the Everlasting Empress in Yaesha. Prior to your departure with it, you’ll need to decide: either unlock the chest or leave it as it is.

Opening the Decorative Chest with its matching Key yields a Thaen Fruit, which you present to the Everlasting Empress to obtain the Burden of the Rebel. This ring performs the following function: It decreases Relic activation rate by 25% and shortens skill cooldowns by 15%. In simpler terms, it lengthens healing times but quickens your access to skills.

As a gamer, here’s how I’d put it: Leaving the lockbox sealed and handing it over to the Eternal Empress rewards you with the Red Doe Sigil amulet. This badge of honor boosts your relic healing by an impressive 30%, but when your health dips below the 50% mark, that bonus doubles!

After locating the Decorative Chest, consider whether to open it or not, then proceed to hand it over to the Empress. Once your choice is made, you’ll be committed to your reward until you repeat the process again. For assistance with other quests featuring choices, check out our Remnant 2 guide.
