Where Is Malcolm in the Middle’s Dewey Actor, Erik Per Sullivan Now?

Fans of the TV series “Malcolm in the Middle” are wondering where Erik Per Sullivan, who played Dewey, Malcolm’s younger brother, might be now, following the revival of the show. Regrettably, Sullivan has decided not to return and reprise his role; instead, another actor will portray Dewey in the new episodes.

So, lets explore the reason behind Erik Per Sullivan not returning to the series.

Here’s what happened to Erik Per Sullivan, Malcolm in the Middle’s original Dewey

Erik Per Sullivan has retired from acting.

Dewey, a significant character, appeared on the television series Malcolm in the Middle, airing from 2000 to 2006. The show ended during its seventh season due to a gradual drop in TV ratings, ultimately resulting in its termination.

Instead, following nearly twenty years, the sitcom will be making a comeback, with almost all the original cast members returning, except for Sullivan. This is due to the fact that he retired from acting back in 2010 and had not participated in any of the show’s reunions throughout the years.

Following the conclusion of the sitcom, Sullivan didn’t stop acting right away. Instead, during its final season in 2006, he made an appearance on the children’s TV series titled “Come on Over.” Additionally, he lent his voice to Mino in Arthur and the Invisibles. It seems that his most recent project was a movie called Twelve, which is categorized as a teen-crime-drama.

In 2024, during a chat with Malcolm France, Jane Kaczmarek (Dewey’s mother, Lois) provided an update on Sullivan’s recent endeavors. She disclosed that he had chosen to leave acting behind due to waning enthusiasm for the field. Instead, he embarked on a new career journey. As of now, she mentioned that he is enrolled in a highly esteemed American university, focusing his studies on Victorian literature.

Speaking about Sullivan’s decision to retire from acting, she expressed respect, stating, “I appreciate it, as many believe that show business is the ultimate dream. However, it’s not for everyone.” It’s important to note that at 33 years old, Sullivan has been replaced by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark in the revival of Malcolm in the Middle.
