Where Is Darius Slay Going After Philadelphia Eagles Release?

There’s much speculation among football enthusiasts about where Darius Slay may end up, following his release by the Philadelphia Eagles on March 3, 2025. A reliable source informed NFL’s Ian Rapoport, an NFL Network Insider, that the 34-year-old would be let go as a post-June 1 cut to save the team approximately $4.3 million in salary cap. However, multiple sources and even Slay himself have hinted at his possible next destination or if he might choose to retire altogether.

What is Darius Slay’s next team?

Among the possible destinations for Darius Slay is either returning to his former team, the Detroit Lions, or, intriguingly, the Philadelphia Eagles.

In a February 19th episode of the St. Brown Podcast, the six-time Pro Bowl cornerback acknowledged his potential release even though he was part of the Super Bowl LIX-winning squad. He noted that he had only one year left on his contract, but emphasized that this didn’t hold much significance. He expressed hope to re-sign with the team again, but if not, he considered the Detroit Lions as a viable alternative since he played for them from 2013 to 2019.

He mentioned that in his upcoming plans, he’d prefer to be either in Philadelphia or Detroit. Regardless of the decision, he expressed a desire to play at least one more season, suggesting that retirement is not currently on his agenda.

According to insider Jonathan Jones on CBS, it wasn’t surprising when Slay was let go by the Eagles because rookies Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean had proven themselves capable of replacing him at cornerback. Essentially, Slay became less essential due to their strong performances.

NBC’s John Clark posted on X that there’s a possibility Slay may rejoin the Eagles for less money.

This upcoming year, Darius Slay is set to become a free agent, joining other Philadelphia Eagles players such as Mekhi Becton, Zack Baun, Josh Sweat, and Milton Williams who are also up for grabs in the free agency market.
