As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but feel electrified about Mani Ratnam’s latest masterpiece, Thug Life, that’s creating quite a stir among movie enthusiasts these days. Mark your calendars for June 5, as this gripping gangster drama is set to storm the silver screen. The countdown to its theatrical release has already begun, and the promotional blitz surrounding it is simply unstoppable!
At a recent promotional event in Mumbai before the film’s premiere, Kamal Haasan announced that “Thug Life” will be available for streaming on OTT platforms following its cinema run.
Instead of the typical practice of releasing a movie digitally after it has been running in theaters for four weeks, Thug Life will have an extended window of eight weeks before its digital release.
For those unfamiliar, it’s worth noting that Netflix has previously confirmed their partnership for the online release of this movie on a streaming platform.
At the event, Kamal Haasan stated, “In fact, it wasn’t an experiment; it was a practical decision. I’m pleased that OTT platform supported us. We had a collaborative discussion. It wasn’t a bargaining session.
I enthusiastically echo his sentiment, “This strategy could potentially serve as a model for others to emulate, contributing positively to our industry’s vitality. We take pride in being pioneers, seizing this chance early on.
Indeed, Thug Life was previously edited by the CBFC and received a UA rating. Only two instances of strong language were muted during the movie. The running time for this film is precisely set at 2 hours and 45 minutes.
Alongside Kamal Haasan, the movie features Silambarasan TR, Trisha Krishnan, Abhirami Venkatachari, Sanya Malhotra, Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, and several other talented actors.
Recently, the teaser for Thug Life was unveiled. This intense preview encapsulates the tense dynamics between a father and his son, which are central to the narrative in a thrilling gangster tale.

The movie was co-scripted by Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan, while AR Rahman handled the film’s music composition.
