Fans eagerly anticipate the upcoming Star Wars series focusing on Darth Maul, and Sam Witwer, who’s played this character in both films and TV shows, has clarified the sequence of events in “Maul: Shadow Lord”. This series not only brings fans back to the animated realm of Star Wars, but also signifies Witwer’s first portrayal as the ominous Sith Lord since 2021’s Lego Star Wars: Terrifying Tales. In preparation for the animated show, Witwer has confirmed the timeline of its events within the existing Star Wars narrative.
Sam Witwer says Darth Maul: Shadow Lord is set soon after The Clone Wars
During a recent chat, it was disclosed by the star of Supergirl that the upcoming Darth Maul: Shadow Lord series is planned to unfold in a storyline taking place a year after the conclusion of the Clone Wars.
During a conversation with Maggie Lovitt from Collider at the ongoing Star Wars Celebration, Sam Witwer mentioned that the story takes place a year after The Clone Wars. In the aftermath of the Clones’ destruction, Maul’s organization has been weakened significantly, causing widespread fear and uncertainty. Despite still having a group with him, it is not in its previous form. Moreover, Maul didn’t expect the rise of the Empire to unfold as it did, as he was only partially aware of his master’s plan for its formation.
In essence, Maul – Shadow Lord’s story should take place during the time period between Episodes 2 and 3, much like The Clone Wars animated series. Furthermore, when discussing the timeline for the Darth Maul series, Witwer mentioned it would have a darker tone than previous Star Wars productions. He explained that they are venturing into areas that have not been explored before, making it “a little bit more perilous” in terms of visuals, sound effects, and overall atmosphere.
As I’m typing this up, I haven’t got word yet on when Maul – Shadow Lord will officially drop from its developers.
