In 2022, the action film “Vikram,” starring Kamal Haasan, proved to be a significant box office hit. The appearance of the National Award-winning actor Suriya as Rolex in a special cameo role received positive feedback from viewers. Interestingly, it’s less known that Suriya declined the role when it was first proposed to him.

In 2022, Suriya shared his initial reservations about taking on the Rolex role and how he nearly turned down the part. The star of Soorarai Pottru explained that it was only the influence of legendary actor Kamal Haasan that convinced him to accept the role in Vikram.

At an award ceremony, Suriya expressed, “Kamal sir has always been my inspiration, shaping who I am today and guiding me throughout my life. When he presented an opportunity to me, I knew I couldn’t let it slip away. I want to share this moment with all of you. It’s when fear strikes that you feel the urge to leap. This decision was made at the last minute. Initially, I had planned to call Lokesh and decline, but in the end, I took on the challenge for one special person.”

In the last scene of the movie, we’re introduced to the character played by Suriya, known as crime lord Rolex. His brief appearance was highly acclaimed by fans, leading many to ask for more. It’s been reported that Suriya might reprise his role as Rolex in the upcoming installment of the Vikram series, which will again be helmed by director Lokesh Kanagaraj.

For those unfamiliar, the movie titled “Vikram” falls under the genre of Telugu action thriller. It was skillfully directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and produced by Raaj Kamal Films International. The main cast includes Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi, and Fahadh Faasil, while Narain, Kalidas Jayaram, and Elango Kumaravel play supporting roles.

As reported by HT, after completing its 113-day run at movie theaters, the film “Vikram” became the all-time highest-earning film in Tamil Nadu and broke records for both attendance and global gross revenue, surpassing the ₹500 crore mark.

The movie is the sequel within the Lokesh Cinemaverse, following up on the 1986 film with the same title.

In terms of his professional endeavors, Suriya is set to appear in the film titled “Kanguva,” which is helmed by director Siva. Alongside Suriya, this movie also features Bobby Deol, Disha Patani, Jagapathi Babu, Yogi Babu, and other talented actors. The premiere of Kanguva is scheduled for 10 October 2024.
