For enthusiasts eagerly anticipating “The Batman 2”, a chat with Warner Bros. Pictures co-chairmen/CEOs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy has shed light on a possible timeline for concerns about further delays in the movie’s release. While James Gunn and Peter Safran oversee the DC division, it was De Luca and Abdy who initially recruited Matt Reeves into the franchise and are still actively engaged with the forthcoming sequel, providing an update on its progress.
When asked about the delays, they told Deadline: “They have some other collaborative work with Matt Reeves going on. However, Peter and James understand that Matt is a talented writer-director who will release his Batman film when he’s written an exceptional script and feels fully prepared.
The movie has faced repeated delays, and there’s talk about Keanu Reeves’ potential health concerns possibly hindering his script completion. However, they mentioned:
Indeed, you’re correct. The main cause for the delay lies in the lack of a completed script. Matt is dedicated to crafting an outstanding film, and it’s challenging to predict precisely how long writing a script will take. Once we have a finalized script, it typically takes about two years for pre-production, filming, and post-production on large movies.
Am glad you care about the director’s Wellbeing

There’s been chatter about the possible health issues of director Matt Reeves, as delays in his projects could be due to personal health matters. This speculation matches up with a general slowdown in all of Reeves’ upcoming works, such as The Batman Part II, for which there are persistent whispers that he might withdraw if filming doesn’t start soon. Additionally, this could potentially affect The Penguin Season 2, but at present, Warner Bros. TV head Channing Dungey has not revealed any concrete plans for a second season.
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but express my anticipation for “The Batman Part II,” set to release in October 2027. However, the road ahead might not be straightforward due to Matt Reeves’ health concerns and his involvement in numerous high-profile projects. This situation underscores the urgent need for the script to be finalized and pre-production to start by this October. If we want to avoid any further delays or significant changes, Reeves will need six months from now to make substantial progress with Warner Bros. It’s a challenging timeline, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a seamless production process!
