When Rajinikanth revealed HOW Amitabh Bachchan helped him get Andhaa Kanoon: ‘They initially wanted Mithun Chakraborty’

As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for the nuances of the film industry, I find it truly heartwarming to witness the camaraderie between two legends like Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan. Their friendship, spanning over three decades, is not just a testament to their professional journey but also a reflection of their mutual respect and admiration for each other.

More recently, Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan teamed up for TJ Gnanavel’s action drama, Vettaiyan. This movie marks a reunion of these legends after 33 years since they last worked together in Hum (1991). Throughout various opportunities, both actors have expressed positive sentiments about each other and maintain a strong bond of friendship. In an old interview, Rajinikanth reminisced on how Mr. Bachchan assisted him in breaking into Bollywood through the film Andhaa Kanoon back in 1983.

Additionally, it was disclosed by Rajinikanth that at first, the producers had thoughts of casting Mithun Chakraborty in the movie. Moreover, at the same gathering, Rajinikanth expressed admiration for Amitabh Bachchan, acknowledging his dedication.

Indeed, at the audio premiere of Vettaiyan, Rajinikanth disclosed an interesting fact. According to MensXP, he stated that it was Amitabh Bachchan who facilitated his part in Andhaa Kaanoon, a remake of Sattam Oru Iruttarai. Initially, Mithun Chakraborty was intended for the role. However, Kamal Haasan had recently achieved success with Ek Duuje Ke Liye. Thus, Amitabh Bachchan proposed Rajinikanth’s name and agreed to take a guest role if he was cast. This is how he secured that part. Later, they collaborated on Geraftaar and Hum, both of which turned out to be major box office successes.

As I witnessed the grandeur of Vettaiyan’s promotion unfold, even the legendary Amitabh Bachchan couldn’t contain his admiration for Rajinikanth. In a heartfelt video message, he hailed him as the ‘supreme among all stars’. It’s fascinating to recall tales from the sets of Hum, where Rajinikanth, the man himself, would choose to rest by lying down on the floor amidst the bustling set. Truly, it’s a heartwarming sight to see such esteemed actors acknowledging and respecting each other, isn’t it?

For those unfamiliar, the movie “Andhaa Kaanoon” was directed by T. Rama Rao and starred Rajinikanth, Hema Malini, and Reena Roy in the main roles. As previously agreed with the producers, Amitabh Bachchan had a small role in the film, while Dharmendra made a special appearance. Remarkably, “Andhaa Kaanoon” was a box office hit and even ranked as the fifth highest-grossing film of the year 1983.
