When Rajinikanth recalled calling Kamal Haasan after struggling to act in Mani Ratnam’s Thalapathi

As a lifestyle expert with a deep appreciation for cinema and its behind-the-scenes tales, I find it truly fascinating to unravel the intricacies of how our beloved stars navigate their craft. The story of Rajinikanth’s struggle on the sets of Thalapathi, guided by none other than Kamal Haasan, is a testament to the camaraderie and mutual respect that exists among these industry titans.

1991 saw the release of Thalapathi, a groundbreaking film that marked the first collaboration between legendary actor Rajinikanth and acclaimed director Mani Ratnam. The movie also starred Mammootty and was a significant commercial success. Interestingly, you might not know that Rajinikanth faced challenges while acting in this production. It was actually Kamal Haasan who stepped in to assist Rajinikanth during the filming of Mani Ratnam’s directorial.

Reflecting back on my 2022 event recollections, I can’t help but reminisce about the unforgettable experience working on the Thalapathi set. As I stepped onto those hallowed grounds, I encountered a unique challenge: navigating the formidable presence of my co-star, Shobana. At that time, she held the undisputed title as the ‘set bully’.

Talking about the same, he said, “It was tough to act in the film. As an actor, I had a set of stock expressions. For love, I had some and similarly some for basic emotions. Mani didn’t accept any. I remember him telling me to feel. I asked what I should feel. I then called Kamal and said it’s really tough to act with this guy (Mani Ratnam). Kamal said, ‘I knew this would happen’. He suggested that I ask Mani to act and just copy him. That call really worked. Thanks Kamal.”

Essentially, making a phone call to Kamal Haasan seemed to help Rajinikanth improve his performance in the movie.

Currently, these renowned performers are preparing for some thrilling ventures at work. Notably, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan each have numerous upcoming projects. Specifically, you’ll soon see Rajinikanth in a film titled “Vettaiyan.”

The highly anticipated movie, helmed by TJ Gnanavel, includes prominent performances from actors like Fahadh Faasil, Amitabh Bachchan, and Manju Warrier in significant parts.

On October 14 of this year, Vettaiyan is scheduled to release in theaters. Additionally, Rajinikanth is working with Lokesh Kanagaraj on a project titled Coolie. Furthermore, there are rumors that he may team up once more with Nelson Dilipkumar for the follow-up of Jailer, as suggested by Yogi Babu.

Contrastingly, Kamal Haasan, who recently appeared in Indian 2, is set to appear next in Thug Life. Notably, he’s teaming up with Mani Ratnam again after a significant gap. Furthermore, the star of Vishwaroopam will join forces with Nag Ashwin once more for the sequel of Kalki 2898 AD, where he will reprise his role as Yaskin in the epic sci-fi production.
