'When I was a conductor, I'd drink every day': Throwback to when Rajinikanth revealed how his wife Latha changed him

As a lifestyle expert, I find myself consistently inspired by the transformative power of love, as beautifully illustrated in the story of Rajinikanth and his wife Latha. Their meeting, which sparked a romance that has spanned over four decades, is a testament to the serendipity that can occur when we least expect it.

For over four decades, the renowned actor Rajinikanth has been married to Latha. They first crossed paths on a movie set when Latha went to conduct an interview with Rajinikanth. During their meeting, a romantic connection ignited between them. So taken was Rajinikanth by his future wife that, at the end of the interview, he spontaneously proposed marriage to Latha.

Ever since then, Rajinikanth and Latha have remained an unbreakable duo. During a past media interview, the Vettaiyan star admitted to having struggled with addiction to alcohol and smoking. However, it was his wife who supported him through this challenging time and helped him overcome those habits.

According to India Today, during the 50th-day celebration of Y Gee Mahendran’s play Charukesi, Rajinikanth thanked Y Gee Mahendran for introducing his wife Latha to him, who significantly impacted his life. The actor stated, “I will always be grateful to Y Gee Mahendran for bringing my spouse, Latha, into my life. At the time, I was a bus conductor and would consume alcohol daily without limit, smoking countless cigarettes. My diet consisted of non-vegetarian meals at least twice a day, and I felt uncomfortable around vegetarians. However, this lifestyle trio was detrimental.

Beyond this, Rajinikanth expressed his conviction that individuals who smoke, drink alcohol, and consume non-vegetarian food may not live healthily past the age of 60. Interestingly, he attributed his change in lifestyle to his wife, Latha, stating that she transformed him through her affectionate care and guided him towards a more disciplined way of life. Furthermore, he encouraged everyone present at the event to consider quitting smoking and drinking for their own health and well-being.

On another occasion, as mentioned in an article from The Times of India, Rajinikanth openly discussed his past struggle with addiction, expressing that his life might have taken a different course had he not been an alcohol consumer. Furthermore, the report hints that Rajinikanth once appeared intoxicated on the sets of K. Balachander’s movie. Upon discovering this, the director reportedly teased him severely and advised him to quit drinking altogether.
