Interestingly, Governor Tyron and his spouse were present as well. The evening took an unexpected turn when a medical crisis occurred, causing the performance to be interrupted. In full view of everyone, Claire swiftly performed surgery to repair a hernia.
During the operation, Jamie seized the opportunity to convey a message to Murtagh. While Tryon uncovered additional information about the Regulators and laid a trap, Jamie utilized Claire’s surgery as a means to send Fergus with the warning.
Jamie, George, and Claire shared a scene where Claire expressed her disbelief in taking written information at face value. She brought up an old tale of George Washington cutting down a cherry tree, which left George puzzled as he had no idea what she was referring to. Despite this awkward encounter, it seems that George didn’t dwell on the incident much.
I’m struck by the fact that George appeared unfazed when Jamie leaped into his carriage; instead, he feigned the need for Claire’s medical instruments, allowing George to drive him away from the theater. In reality, this was a secret mission to contact Fergus and aid Murtagh, an action quite unusual for their time period.
