When Devi Sri Prasad revealed why Pushpa makers were unsure to cast Samantha in Oo Antava

As a fervent admirer of the enchanting world of Telugu cinema, I fondly recall the exhilarating moments when Samantha Ruth Prabhu set the screen ablaze with her captivating performance in Oo Antava from Pushpa’s prequel. It was a delightful surprise to discover that the makers initially harbored doubts about casting this extraordinary actress for such an iconic number, and it is nothing short of magic how things fell into place.

Fans find themselves reminiscing about Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s fiery performance and fluid dance moves in the song “Oo Antava” from Pushpa’s prequel, as excitement builds for Pushpa 2’s latest track “Kissik”. Yet, it might surprise you to learn that the filmmakers initially had doubts whether she could pull it off. Let’s delve into a flashback of when music composer Devi Sri Prasad revealed the backstage story behind her casting in this role.

In 2021, during a chat with Bollywood Bubble, Devi Sri Prasad shared insights into the backstage story of how they chose Samantha Ruth Prabhu for the popular track “Oo Antava” from the movie Pushpa.

During our early talks with the song creators about making a track that served as a counterpoint to a dance number, the topic of who should perform it came up.

In this scenario, DSP explained that the question of who should be featured in the song arose. However, they needed to film the song promptly, so they were also coordinating schedules. Suddenly, DSP’s producer proposed, “What about Samantha?” This paraphrase aims to maintain the original meaning while making it more conversational and easier to understand.

Subsequently, the esteemed National Award-winning musician shared the apprehensions of the production team, questioning whether the actress would accept their proposal. Yet, all anxieties were alleviated, and Samantha ultimately joined the project to film the song in a span of 10-15 days.

As a die-hard fan bursting with excitement, let me share what transpired: DSP hinted, “The producers suggested Samantha would be fantastic for this role, but would she perform an item number? I confessed we were still figuring it out. And then, miraculously, they filmed the song! It all took place within just 10 to 15 days – it was pure enchantment!

Without a shadow of a doubt, the track “Oo Antava” has undeniably achieved tremendous success. To this day, listeners continue to enjoy its energetic rhythm and signature dance moves. Moreover, it’s not just this song; DSP created an array of timeless tunes for Pushpa: The Rise that earned him the National Award as well.

Lately, I’ve been on cloud nine, bursting with excitement over the recent buzz about Devi Sri Prasad! You know, that time when the creators of Pushpa 2 levied accusations against him for holding up the movie? Well, let me tell you, he didn’t just stand there and take it – oh no, he fired back with a response that left everyone talking!

At a gathering in Chennai for the movie, DSP respectfully responded to producer Ravi Shankar’s criticisms, stating, “Ravi sir, it seems you’ve been expressing displeasure with me, claiming that I failed to deliver the song or the background score on schedule. Despite your frustration, I believe there is a lot of love between us. With love comes both affection and constructive criticism. However, I think your criticisms outweigh your expressions of love.

Moving forward to the present, the composer finds himself back in the sequel of Allu Arjun’s movie, set to debut on December 5, 2024. Unlike the original, DSP isn’t working solo this time. Instead, he’s collaborating with other talented musicians like Thaman and Sam CS on the film’s soundtrack.
