When Anil Kapoor took us down memory lane by dropping video of his classic cameo in Mohanlal's Chandralekha

As a lifestyle expert who has spent countless hours immersed in the vibrant world of Indian cinema, I must say that the collaboration between Mohanlal and Anil Kapoor in the 1997 film Chandralekha is a testament to the timeless appeal of their stardom. It’s fascinating to see how these two giants of the industry have managed to leave an indelible mark on the hearts of millions, even when they share the screen for just a few moments, as in this case.

Stars Mohanlal and Anil Kapoor, who are among the most prominent figures in Indian cinema, actually collaborated on a project for the first time in 1997 when they featured in the movie “Chandralekha” together.

Looking back at a post from 2020, I, too, paid tribute to Mohanlal’s 60th birthday by sharing a scene from a movie where he graciously gave me a brief appearance as an insane character who had managed to escape. This film not only showcased Bollywood stardom but also left a lasting impact in Malayalam pop culture, with my nearly 2-minute role becoming one of its most cherished moments.

2020 saw Mohanlal responding to a post by Anil Kapoor with gratitude and nostalgia. He wrote, “Thank you so much, Anil Kapoor sir, and the video you shared brought back memories… Stay safe and healthy.

If you’re not already familiar, the 1997 movie Chandralekha is a Malayalam-language comedy film written and directed by Priyadarshan. This film draws inspiration from the romantic comedy While You Were Sleeping, starring Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman. In this movie, Mohanlal plays the role of an unemployed young man who saves a woman named Chandra from an accident and is subsequently mistaken for her husband, Alfred Fernandes.

In summary, the storyline that unfolds with a series of humorous mix-ups and misconceptions forms the foundation of the film. Apart from Mohanlal, notable actors such as Sukanya, Pooja Batra, Sreenivasan, Nedumudi Venu, among others, took on significant roles in this production. Later, it was adapted into both Telugu and Hindi versions. The Telugu adaptation kept its original name and featured Nagarjuna Akkineni as the main character, while the Bollywood version was titled Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega, starring Salman Khan.

Currently, Anil Kapoor has been appearing in movies, such as Savi with Divya Khosla Kumar. Coming up next, he will have significant roles in films like War 2 and Alpha, which are part of the YRF Spy Universe. In contrast, Mohanlal is actively involved in the production of L2: Empuraan and another untitled project, L360.
