As a dedicated cinephile who has spent countless hours immersed in the rich tapestry of Indian cinema, I find it fascinating to delve into the less-explored aspects of our beloved stars’ careers. One such intriguing instance is the brief but memorable collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and Ajith Kumar in Asoka back in 2001.
Two highly popular actors in Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan and Ajith Kumar, have captivated audiences for years with their movies. Interestingly, some fans may not know that Ajith actually made a special appearance in Shah Rukh’s film, Asoka, back in 2001.
Absolutely! The film “Good Bad Ugly” featured Amitabh Bachchan, who acted alongside Shah Rukh Khan under Santosh Sivan’s direction. In this movie, AK portrayed a dramatic rendition of Susima, the crown prince of the Maurya empire and Asoka’s elder half-brother.
Check out a throwback post ft Shah Rukh Khan and Ajith Kumar sharing the screen:
If you haven’t heard yet, the film “Asoka,” starring Shah Rukh Khan, tells a fictionalized story about Emperor Asoka of the Maurya Empire and his early life as a general in Takshashila. This movie is set in the 3rd century BC on the Indian subcontinent. In this production, Shah Rukh Khan takes on the role of the main character, while Kareena Kapoor Khan plays the female lead.
As a die-hard admirer, I’d like to highlight that this movie wasn’t just about SRK and Kareena Kapoor; it was an ensemble piece featuring stars like Rahul Dev, Danny Denzongpa, Hrishitaa Bhatt, Gerson Da Cunha, Subhashini Ali, and a host of other talented actors in pivotal roles.
Although it contained some factual errors, the movie garnered favorable reviews from critics following its premieres at the Venice Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival. Interestingly, it was also divided into five sections and initially aired as a mini-series on Star Plus in the past.
In the future, Shah Rukh Khan recently starred in the movie titled Dunki, which was helmed by Rajkumar Hirani. This film is a blend of comedy and drama, where SRK portrayed the character of Hardy, a retired soldier who aids his companions on a dangerous voyage to the United Kingdom via illicit immigration. The narrative follows their struggles and eventual outcomes.
Shah Rukh Khan will soon star in a film titled “King,” helmed by director Sujoy Ghosh. Notably, his daughter Suhana Khan will play the main character, and Anirudh Ravichander is rumored to be handling the film’s musical score.
Meanwhile, Ajith Kumar is at present involved in the filming of his movie titled Good Bad Ugly, helmed by Adhik Ravichandran. It’s anticipated that this film will hit theaters during Pongal 2025. Furthermore, there are expectations that AK will unveil not just one but two films in 2025, with Vidaamuyarchi also nearing completion.
