As a devoted fan of Outlander, I must say that diving into the world of Lord John Grey once more is always a delight! The anticipation for the next book in our Book Club, Besieged, is palpable, especially knowing it’s the final installment of this series.
We’ve finished another Lord John Grey novel. The next one in the series is coming up for our Outlander Book Club, but when exactly will we be starting it?
The upcoming novel is titled “Besieged.” It’s actually the concluding installment in a series centered around a British Army officer. Surprisingly, this isn’t the finale; however, it is! Although it marks the end of this particular series for now, author Diana Gabaldon has expressed continued interest in the character. Yet, her immediate attention is on completing the 10th and final “Outlander” book before returning to this captivating tale.
What is Besieged about?
The story resumes approximately one year following the incidents depicted in “A Plague of Zombies”. In this time, John has assumed the position of governor in Jamaica, a role he adopted post the occurrences of the preceding novel. Nevertheless, he is eager to return home.
As I’m about to embark on my journey home, a sudden twist arises – the British Navy prepares to assault Havana. This unexpected turn forces me to alter my course and head towards Cuba instead. A dear relative resides there, someone I must safeguard in these uncertain times. The Dowager Duchess of Pardloe, a valued guest and potential captive of Governor Juan de Prado, adds an extra layer of urgency to my mission.
Indeed, the Dowager Duchess is none but Benedicta, John’s very own mother. In addition to her, John’s cousin Olivia and her spouse, Malcolm Stubbs, are also present.
In this new book, there are links to “A Plague of Zombies” that will be further explored, and it provides resolution to some character arcs left unfinished in the last book due to its sudden ending.
When will we start Besieged in the Outlander Book Club?
We’re not going to start this book right away. There are a few reasons for this.
In simpler terms, we’re delaying the resumption of our regular reading schedule because the new season of Outlander (season 7B) is set to air on Friday, November 22. We believe it would be best to devote our focus to enjoying the TV show during that time, as there might not be much room for reading. This is a similar decision we made when Outlander Season 7A premiered, recognizing that there was simply too much content to engage with simultaneously.
This coming weekend, I’ll be attending The Gathering 2024 – I’m looking forward to running into some of you there! Consequently, starting on the book might prove a bit tricky.
Well, it seems we’re going to wait till 2025 for the next installment of Outlander. Once they announce the final date for season 7B, I’ll definitely mark my calendar and dive right into that long-awaited read-through!
