What's new this September 2024 for PlayStation Plus members

As a PlayStation Essential tier member with a heart full of nostalgia and a gaming shelf adorned with memories, I must say, this month’s offering is a delightful mix of old and new, familiar and fresh. While it may not be the blockbuster lineup some might have hoped for, it certainly has its charm.

Starting from Tuesday, September 3rd, members of the Essential tier on PlayStation will gain access to three fresh games. To be honest, considering the evolution of the subscription service this year, this is a minor enhancement, but it’s still something. However, it’s worth noting that you receive a brand new game on its release day!

Here are your three free games for the month of September:

  • Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions
  • MLB The Show 24
  • Little Nightmares 2

Initially coming up is “Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions”, a brand new addition to the gaming world, which is quite exciting indeed. Notably, it’s been almost two decades since we had a game based on quidditch, making this release particularly noteworthy. If you were disappointed that “Hogwarts Legacy” didn’t incorporate quidditch, this latest offering should definitely pique your interest.

You’re free to assume any role among the four unique positions, each with its distinct playing style. Multiple game environments and maps are available for you to select. Additionally, you can opt to embody any renowned Harry Potter character or even create your own. Collaborative play online is also an option.

Coming up next is the annual sports game for the month, MLB The Show 24. This new version further enhances what the previous year’s edition offered fans and offers players a more immersive, detailed exploration of baseball history. Additionally, Season 2 of the Negro Leagues is included, which is significant as it features women too. Sony San Diego has also introduced a Custom Game Entry feature in Franchise mode to compensate for the less captivating Storyline mode. However, if you are a fan of baseball simulators, you’ll still find this one enjoyable.

Coming up next is “Little Nightmares 2”, perfect timing for setting the eerie ambiance for your Halloween fun. If you’ve played the initial game, welcome back! You control Mono with an AI version of Six as your sidekick this time. Mono can use weapons in specific stages, while Six serves as a helpful guide during more intense levels where things might get a bit too frightening, and you could potentially get thrown off course. In these situations, Six will lead you to safe hiding spots or show you the right path.

Although the game is relatively brief, lasting approximately four hours, its eerie atmosphere will linger with you even after the closing credits have finished playing.

As a perk of being a subscriber at the Extra tier, you’ll get early access to “The Plucky Squire” when it drops on September 17th. (First-person perspective: I’ll have early access to “The Plucky Squire” as a subscriber at the Extra tier when it releases on September 17th.)
