As a Netflix enthusiast with a penchant for binge-watching and a knack for predicting the next big hit, I must say that September is shaping up to be a fantastic month! The diverse array of shows and movies hitting the streaming platform this fall has me thoroughly intrigued and excited.

Is it hard to believe that we’ve already reached September? In a few short months, 2024 will draw to a close, but before the arrival of the New Year, there are still plenty of Netflix shows and films to keep us entertained during the autumn season. After the Labor Day holiday, Netflix launches into September and the beginning of fall with some of its most highly anticipated new series, movies, and live events yet.

Kicking off the month is a deluge of nostalgic films on Netflix, followed by the debut of a fresh season of “Call the Midwife” and Hope Solo’s Untold documentary in the first week of September. Additionally, there’s a retrospective doc about Apollo 13, a new drama film titled “Rebel Ridge”, and the return of the popular real estate reality series “Selling Sunset”.

If you’re seeking excellent choices to include in your viewing lineup this week, here are four upcoming Netflix releases that are worth keeping an eye on!

What to watch on Netflix this week (Sept. 2-6): The Perfect Couple, Outlast, and more

The Perfect Couple premieres Sept. 5

As the chill of autumn begins to nip at the air, Netflix serves up a final taste of summer with the captivating adaptation of “The Perfect Couple,” inspired by Elin Hilderbrand’s popular novel. This limited series revolves around a well-to-do family whose idyllic wedding celebration at their Nantucket estate takes an unexpectedly dark turn when tragedy strikes, leaving every guest a potential suspect in this intriguing whodunit mystery. Led by the exceptional talents of Nicole Kidman, this six-episode series is so engrossing that you’ll find yourself unable to tear your eyes away from the screen.

Outlast season 2 premieres Sept. 4

Are you an enthusiast of Survivor and eagerly awaiting its return on CBS this September? If so, Netflix has a similar show to keep you entertained until then! The survival competition series Outlast is back for a second season on September 4th, streaming in two batches. Four episodes from season 2 will be available starting on the 4th, with the remaining four dropping the following week on the 11th. Witness the thrilling new journeys of 16 solitary survivors battling it out in the harsh Alaskan wilderness, with the goal of being the last one standing and claiming the massive million-dollar reward!

Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef airs Sept. 2

On Labor Day when you’re enjoying a family barbecue at home, it’s likely that hot dogs will be the main dish, as they are traditional summer cookout fare. Don’t forget to tune in on September 2 at 12 p.m. PT/3 p.m. ET for an exciting hot dog eating contest between Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi. The event is called “Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef“. Rob Riggle and Nikki Garcia will host the competition, which also includes Matt Stonie competing against olympians Ryan Lochte, Ryan Murphy, and Max Irving in a chicken wing contest, as well as Leah Shutkever attempting to break a watermelon record. Be sure to save some space on your plate for this thrilling live event!

The Hughleys complete series arrives Sept. 2

If a hot dog eating contest on Labor Day doesn’t appeal to your appetite, perhaps the nostalgic charm of the late ’90s might tickle your fancy instead. Beginning September 2nd, all four seasons of the family sitcom “The Hughleys” will be available for streaming on Netflix. Starring comedian D.L. Hughley, this comedy series follows a family transitioning from city life to the suburbs. With a total of 89 episodes, you’re in for a week-long laughter marathon!
