What to expect for Caraxes in House of the Dragon Season 3 based on the book?

As a devoted fan who has spent countless hours immersed in the rich tapestry of Westeros and Essos, I can’t help but feel a pang of anticipation when it comes to the fate of Caraxes in House of the Dragon Season 3. The Dance of the Dragons is indeed a grim dance, and it’s heart-wrenching to see these majestic beasts torn apart by the Targaryen Civil War.

In House of the Dragon Season 2, we caught glimpses of Caraxes as Daemon ventured into the Riverlands. Now that Daemon is back in action alongside Rhaenyra, expect to see more of this dragon. So, what lies ahead for Caraxes?

Every dragon possesses its unique tale, yet this period, known as The Dance of the Dragons, is far from favorable for these magnificent beings. Caught in the midst of the Targaryen Civil War, they are compelled to clash and weaken each other.

Instead of peering into the potential outcomes for Caraxes’s future in “House of the Dragon” Season 3, let’s examine the plotlines from George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood” to get a clue about what might happen to Caraxes.

Caraxes should get a major battle in House of the Dragon Season 3

In the narrative, Daemon links up with Rhaenyra initially, but later finds himself involved in various minor assignments throughout Westeros. This journey eventually brings him across a character named Nettles, and there is a developing storyline hinting at an affair between them. Unfortunately, viewers may not encounter Nettles in Season 3 of House of the Dragon.

Instead, it seems that Rhaena might adopt Nettles’s narrative, implying that Caraxes and Sheepstealer could spend time together in a unique fashion. This change eliminates speculation about an affair and offers Daemon and Rhaena more meaningful father-daughter moments.

An imminent significant conflict looms over Caraxes. As Rhaenyra captures King’s Landing, Aemond seizes Harrenhal. In time, Daemon and Aemond engage in aerial combat on their dragons above the God’s Eye. If you recall Helaena’s prophecy, she foretold that Aemond would perish, and indeed he will. However, he won’t be the only one meeting such an end.

In this fierce clash, both dragons – Caraxes and Vhagar – along with their respective riders, will likely lose their lives. Determined to the end, Caraxes puts up a valiant fight. As Vhagar tears open Caraxes’s underside and amputates a wing, Caraxes retaliates by biting deeply into Vhagar’s neck. The two colossal beasts, together with their riders, plunge into the water in the aftermath of their violent struggle.

Caraxes, his strength waning, manages to climb out of the water and reach Harrenhal’s walls, where he eventually perishes on dry land. If the series portrays this scene, it will undoubtedly be a sorrowful moment for viewers as it implies witnessing Caraxes suffer without his rider, Daemon, who has presumably drowned and remains lost beneath the waves.
