As a seasoned survivor in The Forever Winter, I’ve learned to adapt and thrive in this harsh, unforgiving world. The thrill of raids is not just about the adrenaline-pumping battles or the satisfaction of downing fearsome beasts, but also the tantalizing prospect of Large Lockboxes.
In The Forever Winter’s raids, there’s plenty of valuable treasure at stake. Should you survive, you might find yourself in possession of Big Chest-like items called Large Lockboxes. But, you may wonder, what are these useful for?
Can you open Large Lockboxes in The Forever Winter?
Contrary to what you may believe, Large Lockboxes aren’t intended for opening to access their contents. Instead, they are purchased by vendors at a high price in Credits. You could earn as much as 15,000 Credits by selling one of these items, and they can be found quite readily across various regions.
In the Mech Trenches map, you’ll almost certainly find a room containing water where you can also locate an elevator. After leaving the raid, you’ll typically encounter a screen displaying all your loot, often accompanied by a “Open All Boxes” button.
This button functions primarily to unlock something known as Gacha Boxes. Inside these Gacha Boxes, you’ll find various items such as medical supplies, ammunition, and additional loot. However, if you press the button when you already possess a Large Lockbox, it won’t activate.
Instead, head towards Heisenburg, located to your right next to the main mission hub, or find Aramaki over on the left side, near the Water Storage area I’ll refer to as the Blood Room. Both characters will exchange unwanted items for Credits. The Lockboxes you seek can be found under the Junk and Large Items section on the right-hand side of your screen.
As a dedicated player, I’ve discovered that these earned credits can be utilized in several ways. I can invest them in essentials like equipment, firearms, and ammunition to enhance my gaming experience. Alternatively, I can choose to use them to improve different aspects of The Innards, aiming to make life within it more comfortable and enjoyable.
