As a seasoned reader and gamer with a soft spot for heartwarming romances, I must say that Laura Moher has truly outdone herself with “What She’s Having”. Having devoured “Curves for Days” before diving into this delightful sequel, I can confirm that the anticipation was well worth it.
In terms of first-time romance novels, Laura Moher truly delivered a home run with “Curves for Days“, which made the anticipation for “What She’s Having” genuinely palpable.
It’s advisable to start with “Curves for Days,” the first book in the “Big Love from Galway” series, before moving on to “What She’s Having.” Reading them in sequence will provide you with a richer understanding of the main couple and their romance, as it offers a solid foundation for the subsequent books.
Speaking of “What She’s Having”, this book seems perfect for a summer read or even if you decide to pick it up during the fall months. With its pie-adorned cover and seafoam green hue, it definitely exudes the vibe of a delightful summer romance novel.
Speaking of which, I’d like to express my gratitude to Sourcebooks Casablanca for providing me with an advance reading copy. I found the book absolutely captivating and am eager to express my views about it.
What She’s Having is a delectable second-chance romance.
In my gaming world, I find myself revisiting my hometown after a long absence, spurred by a secret my mom shared on her deathbed. As I step back into the familiar streets, I cross paths with June, a successful entrepreneur and culinary whiz who owns a bustling restaurant. However, this isn’t the first time our paths have crossed – we share a past that’s about to unravel as I delve deeper into the story of my hometown.
Despite not having much time together during their teenage years, Joe and June’s love was fiery and intense. Once they advanced their relationship, Joe departed abruptly. Revisiting each other stirs up old feelings, with both yearning for a second opportunity to rekindle what they had. However, reuniting isn’t as straightforward as they thought it would be.
As a gamer immersed in Laura Moher’s narrative, I must confess: Their relationship felt incredibly authentic, and I found myself utterly captivated by it. Unlike some stories where characters magically rekindle their love or jump straight back into intimacy, these two navigated the complexities of reconnection. There were moments that were awkward, understandable when you’re learning about someone all over again. But what made their romance even more remarkable was the effort they put in to get there. It wasn’t easy, but boy, did it make their love story all the more compelling.
Furthermore, Joe and June are both grappling with past traumas that continue to impact their lives. Specifically, Joe was abused as a child, which has lingering effects on him in adulthood. On the other hand, June experienced a difficult time following her separation from Joe, including battles with depression and an eating disorder. If you find these topics challenging, I’d advise against reading this story, as it delves into loss of a parent, grief, homelessness, and homophobia. However, if you are able to handle such content, What She’s Having is definitely worth your time.
In this captivating tale, I wasn’t just drawn into the blossoming romance between Joe and June, but also their compassionate role as mentors to Sam and Maisie. The emotional journey of Sam and Maisie was particularly poignant, skillfully woven by Laura Moher. Despite the heartache, everyone found their happily ever after, though it came after a great deal of effort. All I can say is that I eagerly await more from this series, as I’m completely smitten with this book and yearn for more stories in this enchanting world.
In the end, “What She’s Having” was just what I was looking for when I started reading it. It immediately grabbed my attention and made me grow fond of these characters and their tales. If you appreciate heartwarming found family dynamics, a delightful romance, and generous servings of good food, you won’t be let down by this book from Laura Moher.
