As a seasoned gamer who’s lived through countless romantic tales in virtual worlds, I must say that “Lonely Planet” seems like a captivating blend of real-life romance and introspection, set against the backdrop of a writers’ retreat – a setting that has always sparked my curiosity. The star-studded cast of Laura Dern and Liam Hemsworth adds a touch of allure to this intriguing narrative.
Typically, October brings out the spooky side in many of us, yet it doesn’t dampen our desire for love. Luckily, Netflix has some offerings to satisfy both tastes, and among them is the title “Lonely Planet“.
In this film, Laura Dern and Liam Hemsworth take on leading roles. The intrigue lies in the apparent romantic entanglements – a theme that might spark deep contemplation due to hints of infidelity. However, at its core, the narrative revolves around love and self-discovery.
What is Lonely Planet about?
The Netflix film centers around Katherine, a novelist, who embarks on a writers’ sanctuary to conquer her writer’s slump. Rather than participating in collective pursuits, she yearns for a tranquil spot to complete her manuscript.
Despite what one might initially expect, she won’t end up meeting an author during her retreat. Instead, she encounters Owen, a man not associated with authorship. He’s accompanied by his author girlfriend and seems to be at a loss. Additionally, he begins to reassess the decisions he has made recently.
It seems to me that Owen has come to question whether his girlfriend is truly compatible with him. He notices changes in her during her stay at the writer’s retreat, leaving him feeling out of place. However, things take an unexpected turn when he encounters Katherine and forms a deep connection with her. Yet, the complicating factor is that he’s already in a relationship – raising the possibility of a potentially messy situation arising between them.
The film doesn’t solely revolve around romance; it also delves into self-discovery. Katherine embarks on a transformative voyage, freeing her mind by venturing out into the world and encountering events she would have previously considered impossible.
Lonely Planet is available to stream on Netflix on Friday, Oct. 11.
