In the much-anticipated second season of “XO, Kitty,” many intense scenes unfold, including the revelation of Esther Shim’s hidden persona. This season premiered on Netflix on January 16, 2025, wrapping up Kitty’s exhilarating second year at KISS across eight episodes. Nevertheless, some viewers are left puzzled about the relationship between Esther and Stella, Kitty’s latest roommate.
So, here’s everything fans need to know about Esther’s identity and story in XO, Kitty Season 2.
Who is Esther and how is she connected to Stella in XO, Kitty Season 2?
Under the name Stella Cho, Esther Shim carries out her scheme for vengeance targeted at Min-ho Moon’s father.
Esther’s true identity is subtly suggested for the first time when Kitty’s roommate, Stella, tells her parents emphatically, “Let me make this clear once more – my name is Stella, not Esther.” This statement serves as a red flag to the audience, hinting at something suspicious. The connection between the two names becomes gradually apparent in subsequent episodes.
It comes to light that Esther used to aspire to participate in Mr. Moon’s talent show. During her performance, he publicly humiliated and embarrassed her by telling her that she lacked the appearance required to be a star. In response to his criticism, she confidently asserted, “Beauty should originate from within,” which garnered widespread attention online.
Thus, driven by her desire for revenge against Mr. Moon, Esther sets out to ruin his standing and dismantle his enterprise. To achieve this, she joins KISS, starts courting Min-ho, his son, and earns his confidence. Beyond Mr. Moon, she also attempts to undermine Joon Ho, his eldest son who is a Korean superstar. In the Season 2 closing episode, she menaces to expose that one of his backup dancers is pregnant with his child.
Previously, Kitty had identified Esther as Stella and tried to alert Min-ho about his girlfriend’s deceitful intentions. However, Min-ho chose not to listen. Fortunately, they eventually realized her intention was to sabotage Mr. Moon’s business and tarnish Joon Ho’s image. As a result, Kitty and Min-ho joined forces to protect Joon Ho’s reputation. They assisted him in making a public statement about his genuine affection for the dancer and their upcoming marriage.
In the end, it’s clear that Esther consistently tries to undermine the contestants in Mr. Moon’s talent show. However, she gets caught in the act, thanks to Min-ho and Kitty. As the second season concludes, Mr. Moon decides to return Esther to the United States.
