What is Ayyappa Deeksha?
The 41-day religious observance known as Ayyappa Vow is followed by devotees of Swamy Ayyappa prior to their journey to the Sabarimala temple in Kerala. This ritual underscores the significance of asceticism and self-restraint for those aiming for spiritual advancement and a stronger bond with the Divine.
During this time, it’s important for worshippers to adhere to specific rules, particularly as they approach the 18 steps (the sacred path) leading to the temple. A significant part of this ritual involves wearing a bead necklace with an amulet of Lord Ayyappan. After putting on the necklace, devotees vow to lead a life devoid of pleasures and earthly temptations, which includes refraining from smoking, drinking, and other worldly distractions.
For many centuries, devotion to Ayyappan has been deeply rooted in the culture of Kerala. However, it was during the 20th century that this practice saw a marked increase and began to gain popularity across large parts of Southern India. Today, there are numerous temples dedicated to Ayyappan scattered throughout South India, with the most renowned one standing at Sabarimala. This temple is nestled on the banks of the Pamba River in the Western Ghats region of Kerala. Notably, it is accessible only during certain periods of the year.
On this spiritual path, each follower is expected to adorn a garland with Tulsi leaves or Rudraksha beads. Spiritual leaders, or Swamis, often wear robes in black, deep blue, or saffron and walk unshod. During this time, devotees also abstain from shaving their beards or getting haircuts.

Ram Charan has consistently adhered to the Ayyappa Deeksha tradition, with nearly annual observance of this 41-day-long religious practice. He honored a sacred vow during the triumph of RRR in 2022, and last year he engaged in spiritual practices for his daughter, Klin Kaara Konidela.
On the professional side, the actor is geared up for the debut of “Game Changer” on January 10, 2025. Subsequently, he’ll share screen space with Janhvi Kapoor in movie RC 16.
