As a fan who has followed the heart-wrenching journey of Gi-Hun and Jung-Bae since the first season, I must say that Jung-Bae’s demise in Season 2 was a gut-punch. Having watched them struggle together, laugh together, and face adversity side by side, his death felt like losing a dear friend.
Many viewers are eagerly wondering whether Jung-Bae, played by Lee Seo-Hwan, will live or perish in the upcoming season of Netflix’s Squid Game. This character, who has been close friends with the main protagonist Gi-Hun and runs a pub, struggles with a gambling addiction. This vice lands him in debt, which ultimately leads him to participate in these life-threatening games. Given the lethal nature of this competition, did Jung-Bae meet an unfortunate end or somehow manage to stay alive?
Here is what happens to Jung-bae in Squid Game Season 2.
Does Squid Game’s Jung-bae die in Season 2?
Yes, Jung-Bae dies in Squid Game Season 2.
Jung-Bae finds himself battling severe financial problems and is forced to join the games for a chance at the prize cash to settle his debts. As Player 390, he reconnects with his closest friend, Gi-Hun, who also plays to avenge The Front Man in these games.
In the midst of continuous competitions, the pair takes a moment to reminisce about their bond and encourages one another to conquer the difficulties that the games impose. A particularly moving sequence shows Jung-Bae facing a heartbreaking end, even though he had previously triumphed over numerous obstacles.
Following a fierce fight among competitors, Gi-Hun and others get into a scuffle with the security personnel. They try to grab the guards’ weapons and flee, only to find themselves cornered at a dead end. With no exit in sight, the contestants engage in a climactic battle with the guards. In the heated struggle, The Front Man fatally shoots Jung-Bae, who was later identified as Player 001.
Gi-Hung is deeply saddened by the terrible demise of his friend, an event that intensifies his relentless fury towards The Front Man and the game. Jung-Bae’s untimely and heart-wrenching death significantly alters Gi-Hun’s character journey, as he finds himself completely isolated in his struggle against The Front Man and the lethal games, without any support from allies.
