Ready to explore it? Let’s take a look at how the story of Happy Gilmore unfolds in its second installment and uncover the final outcome for our main character and his loved ones.

Fate of Happy’s family in Happy Gilmore 2’s ending explained

After an unfortunate accident where Happy Gilmore unintentionally strikes and loses his wife, Virginia, with a golf ball, he decides to abandon the sport. Time passes, and he now lives as a heavy drinker, caring for five children who seem to be grappling with their own difficulties. Similar to the initial movie plot, when money troubles strike for his family once more, Happy rekindles his relationship with golf.

Vienna (Sunny Sandler), Happy’s daughter, aspires to study ballet at an academy in Paris, but the tuition costs $300,000. Unfortunately, due to the loss of his grandmother’s house, Happy finds himself living in a challenging neighborhood with Vienna. Meanwhile, his four sons are making ends meet by doing various odd jobs.

Under the weight of his familial responsibilities, Happy reluctantly grabs his golf club once more. Gradually, he refines his abilities anew, even perfecting his signature swing. Additionally, he abstains from alcohol and ultimately competes in the esteemed Tour Championship, a longstanding tradition.

In the second installment, the villain, Frank Manatee (played by Benny Safdie), who owns Maxi Sports Drink, has plans to launch a Maxi Golf League. He invites Happy, but he declines. Later, it’s made known that the established players will compete to earn a spot in the climactic contest within the Maxi Golf League.

Initially, Happy doesn’t make the cut, but when another player switches teams from the usual group to the Maxi team, Happy gets his chance. In the final tournament, Happy encounters not only a physically altered Maxi team, but also fresh obstacles that are added to the game.

In the end, Happy makes it to the final round of the competition where he needs to take a shot from a rotating stage. However, he uses his distinctive trick and gets the ball near the opening. Later on, Oscar, his caddie, trips up and pushes the ball into the hole, securing Happy’s victory in the game.

As per his agreement with Frank, Happy Gilmore manages to reclaim his grandmother’s home. Simultaneously, Oscar obtains a restaurant of his own, while Happy arranges for his daughter, Vienna, to study in Paris. Consequently, the championship serves as a turning point for both Happy’s career and family life.

In the final scenes of Happy Gilmore 2, it’s me – Happy Gilmore himself – who watches my kids board a plane bound for Paris. I plan to join them later when I head to the British Open. So, once more, it falls on me to rescue my family from a jam and reignite my golfing passion.

Happy Gilmore 2 is now streaming on Netflix.
