During this battle, Claire assumes the role of a medic, attending to the severely wounded soldiers from the Continental Army. The conflict ends harshly for numerous innocents, including Claire herself.
Despite being advised to flee the camp, she chooses to stay with her patients instead. When conflict erupted between the British and Americans, she suffered a terrible ordeal. She was gravely wounded in the abdomen. Jamie appeared to assist her. Yet, rather than accepting his help, she requested him to summon Denzell for treatment of her injury. Though she directs him in caring for her, her chances of survival appear challenging.

As she recovers, she relocates with Jamie to Fraser’s Ridge in the novel.
