In the recently released Netflix documentary titled “Trainwreck: P.I. Moms“, we explore an unusual situation where ex-police officer Chris Butler established a Private Investigation firm with some trained moms. Although the unique nature of this business nearly led to a reality TV series on Lifetime, it ultimately fell apart when Butler was discovered engaging in illegal activities himself.
Does Chris Butler go to prison in or after Trainwreck: PI Moms?
After pleading guilty to multiple federal charges, Butler was sent to jail for around eight years.
A past Antioch policeman named Butler is said to have departed from his role in law enforcement and established Butler & Associates, a private investigation firm. It’s alleged that he held the view that women were more adept at multitasking, leading him to recruit numerous mothers for the position of Private Investigator and train them accordingly.
As time went by, people started calling us the PI Moms – a name that we wore with pride. Our venture really took off, and things got even better when we made an appearance on the Dr. Phil show. After that, Lifetime saw our story as something worth telling, and before we knew it, they were creating a series all about us!
Yet, things appeared uncertain. Some investigations seemed contrived, and Chris Butler’s tales, while promising, lacked substantial truth. Furthermore, Carl Marino, Director of Operations, seemed excessively meddlesome. However, these issues were merely foreshadowing the major predicament that was looming over PI Moms.
In 2012, Butler admitted his guilt on seven federal counts. It was alleged that he collaborated with Norman Wielsch, a former head of the Central Contra Costa County Narcotics Enforcement Team, in the theft and sale of illegal substances. He confessed to charges related to robbery, extortion, and conspiracy, among others.
The court imposed an eight-year imprisonment term and a fine of $20,000 on him. However, due to his cooperation with the police, his sentence was reduced. Since then, it’s been long enough for him to have served his time, but his current location remains a mystery as we speak.
Trainwreck: The Private Investigator Moms delves deeper into the case at hand, providing additional insights about Chris Butler. Currently, you can watch it streaming on Netflix.
