On December 15, 2024, Hussain, the renowned Indian Tabla player, sadly lost his life at a San Francisco hospital due to complications from an unknown lung condition called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, as his family shared.
In a statement to PTI, Hussain’s sister, Khurshid Aulia, shared that he passed away serenely as the ventilator was turned off, which occurred at 4 pm in San Francisco. The family’s announcement expresses that he leaves behind an exceptional legacy, deeply valued by music enthusiasts worldwide, whose impact will continue to echo for future generations.
The family of the renowned Tabla artist praised Hussain for his role as an educator, guide, and mentor, which has motivated numerous musicians. Moreover, they stated that he aspired to motivate the upcoming generation to surpass their achievements. Leaving behind, he has created an unprecedented legacy as a cultural envoy and one of the most exceptional musicians in history.
Born in 1951 to the esteemed tabla player Ustad Alla Rakha Qureshi, Hussain began his career as a tabla player at just seven years old. Over a span of six decades, this versatile musician has worked alongside numerous celebrated artists such as Van Morrison, George Harrison, Charles Lloyd, and many others.
Apart from his musical endeavors, Hussain made notable guest appearances in films such as Monkey Man, starring Dev Patel, and the 1983 production titled Heat and Dust.
