Is that magnificent beast still breathing fire and soaring through the skies? And if the creators choose to deviate from the original storyline, how drastically might they alter Sunfyre’s role in our adventures?
Rhaenyra hints Sunfyre is dead in House of the Dragon
In the episode, the Greens make no reference whatsoever to Sunfyre. Their primary focus is on their monarch and the matter of the regency, an expectation considering Alicent’s strong attachment to her son over his dragon. The governance of King’s Landing necessitates a capable regent.
As a devoted fan, I’d rephrase it this way: In the episode’s closing moments, Rhaenyra subtly conveys to Jaceary that Sunfyre, their Green dragon, is no more. She doesn’t explicitly state “Sunfyre is dead,” but her tone and words leave little room for doubt. It seems the Greens have lost their dragon, and it isn’t Meleys we’re discussing here.
Although Sunfyre’s fate remains undisclosed and unconfirmed in the story, implying that he may still be alive, his significant role in “The Dance of the Dragons” warrants adherence to the original book plotline.
Sunfyre is likely still at Rook’s Rest in House of the Dragon
As mentioned in the text, Sunfyre was forced to stay at Rook’s Rest due to an injury inflicted by Meleys. His wing was badly torn apart, leaving him in need of healing and rest.
